I'm deciding between 35's and 33's and in all my research the rational side of me is leaning towards 33's. Unsprung weight, cost, clearance are all considerations are all arguing in favor of 33's, but my irrational isn't sure about the look of 33's vs 35's. Gearing won't be an issue because I plan to go to 4.56's when I install air lockers.

Who has a lifted 80 on 33's? I managed to find a couple of pics spread out here and there, but I'd like to see some more pics to help me decide.

As always, thanks in advance!

this is ome mediums with a 1 inch body lift. 285/75. go with the 35s I wish I had.

Go with 35's. I've got the 33's on an 850/860 lift and the unsprung weight difference between the two sizes is negligible. The cost difference is minimal when you look at the additional cost of upgrading later.

With the lift, the tires almost look small. Go 35 and be happy later.

Do you have to re gear with 35's?

I'm in Florida so it's flat everywhere. I'm not going to when I get new tires. if I lived in the rockies I'd say yes. but the OP said he was already going to either way

Cool it's the only thing keeping me from going 35 is the gearing thing . I think I am going to go with 18s and 35's nitro grappler or the dune ones. I drive 95% of the time in the city on the roads , I want a little more sidewall rigidity for better handling .

I have both on stock gearing, 295/70r17 toyot mt on FJ steel wheels and 315/75r16 BFG KM2's on stock alloys, they both look small now. I'd say 315's or you will 2nd guess yourself.

Here's mine. IMO, go with 35's.

If you go with 33's, you will want 35's well before your 33's wear out. But, if you can wait long enough, you'll start thinking of getting 37's instead!

I went with some 295/75r16 (33.4"). Seemed like a good balance between 285s (32.8") and 315s (34.6") Since I live in Colorado gearing is a concern. I think in order to do 35s right a regear is a necessity since these trucks are already underpowered even with the stock size tire. When I have enough money set aside to rebuild/regear the axles though, I'll be looking at 35s or 37s

I put 285's on mine and regretted it. 2 months later swapped them to 315's. If you really want 33's then don't lift it otherwise you're going to constantly wish you had gone bigger. Trust me and everyone else here saying it - I didn't and then of course regretted it

These threads constantly pop up. I think one of the big reasons is people are used to other rigs. On just about everything else 33's are a big step up and going 35's requires lots of lift or trimming. Just not the case with 80's, you can't compare these wheel wells with any other rig except maybe the Jeep JK's.

On the gearing, it seems people have more problems with 33's than 35's or even 37's. The 33's seem to bog down before downshifting with stock gears. Bigger tires downshift faster before bogging down it would seem. Now offroad, that's a whole different story.

Here's mine, TJM 2.5" and 33's:

I like 33's in part because they retain the lifted look more. That boosted big fender gap look.
