Nice job with the pics. The slight overcast and lighting actually results in awesome detailing of your rig, I like it.

I notice how much brighter the green lit clock and knobs are to my darker '01.

I love that dark wood. Up until it starts to bubble and de-laminate, I 2nd for keeping the wood grain.

Got the pinstripe stickers pulled today. Blow Dryer on HOT really helped "keep them going" once I got an edge rolled up and started pulling. After that, I had to follow up with Goo-Gone to get the adhesieve off. Well, that stripped the wax, so I polished it out with some Machine Polish on a rotary buffer set at low speed. Since I was doing the stripe area down both sides, I went ahead and did the whole truck. Well, once it was polished, it's a MUST to follow that with a wax or sealer, so I had to apply a synthetic sealer with the foam pad and buff off with a microfiber towel.

Paint is now slicker than glass. :D I'll see about getting some pics tomorrow. Right now, the pollen isn't even sticking to it anymore.

Part of me wants to hit up the detailing shop and do the same thing, just to get the truck "clean" from the previous owners neglect (both inside and out). Between the damn pet hair ground into everything and the acidic stains on the paint from bird droppings that sat there too long, It would be nice to bring out some shine again. I'm not sure if it's worth the money as the truck is 11 years old and I'm just going to be beating on it off road, but it would be nice to do as part of the baseline, to get all of the old gunk off of it.

I don't know if the earlier versions of the Nav system have this, but it's a really handy tool if you want to see what you can do with a feather foot to get the best fuel economy.

It's a real-time display (sliding bar) showing your current instantaneous MPG, plus the average for the tank and range. Also displayed is the average speed for this trip (since ignition) and distance covered for this trip.

Now that I've had my fun with the new-found power (275HP) and have been getting 14 around town and 16+ on the highway, I decided to see what this thing could do to SIP fuel. I have verified that this thing is accurate to within 1/10th of a MPG so far with hand-calcs.

I filled up 4-miles from home on my 25-mile commute into work this morning and babied it all the way to the office. Most of this was 45-55 MPH areas with some being 35MPH. I kept it at the speed limit and no more than 3-4 MPH above the limit. I did not drive under the limit unless traffic was moving slowly. I tried to keep the acceleration RPMs under 3K and preferrably under 2500 if appropriate. I let off and coasted to traffic lights and generally just drove to keep up with traffic without being stupid with the skinny pedal.

Anyway, here's the results.

Fuel Econ: 18.6 MPG
Avg Speed: 37 MPH (includes stop time at signals)
Distance: 21-miles

Not bad at all! :D I'm quite shocked to be honest!

I just did the same thing. Turns out mine was painted on the passenger side and the dumbasses masked it at the pin stripe so I can't get the line out on my doors. Of course, you have to know what you are looking for ans the average person can't tell.

GooF Off is your friend in that job, mine did not need a hair dryer, just a straight razor to start.

That polish/strip job is a HUGE PITA. I was dead tired after stripping and rewaxing the passenger side. i will have to wait to do the rest when I have more time.

With my 305's, I can drive it like that and get right at 16mph with mixed driving. I have not gotten a road trip in yet to see how good I can get it, but I was also surprised that this calculator is correct on my mileage when my odometer is off by 5-7%. I don't get it, but when I add 7% and hand calculate, they always match.

I think the calculator is using the GPS to track distance and the fuel maps in the ecu to track consumption. The only thing that's "off" is the distance to empty. I can usually go about 10% farther than the stated distance before the fuel light comes on.

It's not going to give you to exact empty...next thing you know people would be suing toyota because their car said they could go 50 miles and the next fuel stop was 48 but they didnt make it because they got a head wind and ended up running out of fuel because they had to use more throttle to keep 15mph over the speed limit.

Duh!

My point was that the displayed range is before the idiot light even comes on. A good 100-miles or so short of being actually empty.

Based on my experience, the distance for the calculation is the same as the Odometer (i.e., not GPS.) When I regeared to 4.88's while running 33's I could see my MPG on that this shoot very high--but those gains were just imaginary, and based on the fact that my driveline was spinning 10% faster than stock (i.e., it thought I was driving 10% faster than reality.)

What I never understood was the "calibration" option in the menu that you can choose (and if I remember correctly, the manual suggests you do when you change tires or inflate/deflate them.) From my experience it doesn't seem to do anything--it certainly has not been able to adjust the calculations for my various tire/gearing combinations...

Just ordered all the Amsoil goodies, but went w/ 5W30 instead of 0W. :D

That display was really cool in the beginning. I've since turned it off, after the 4th or so friend got in my car and exclaimed "OMG, your only getting 14mpg!!!". I also found at night the bright light is a distraction on the eyes.

Just listed the electric fan and controller in the classifieds since I decided not to install it on this truck.

Also, I was checking out the airbox and trying to decide on if I wanted to put a deck plate in it or not. I opened it up and was shocked to see that the "neck" going into the fender cavity looks a LOT larger on this truck than it was on the 2000. This one is so big that I can easily fit my hand down into the hole. I was shocked to feel that there was NO ELBOW on this airbox inside the fender. So, larger opening for more air AND less restriction.

Nice. :D

out of curiosity, why no electric fan on the '07? should benefit both years equally, no? is it just the unmolested pristine factor of the new ride?

The unmolested factor along with the extra 40HP in the 07. The 00 was somewhat sluggish and that freed up a few ponies (and made it a little quieter). The 07 isn't lacking the power dept.

Or the gas mileage department, apparently. :)
