Hopefully the real story is that he was taking measurements for the fitment of a new duel t-case or crawler box.:D:bounce:

It wasn't then but...it's in the cards:grinpimp:

I'm sorry. I just can't wrap my arms around a trail where you are certain to tear-up your vehicle. Many will disagree with me and they are free to do so. I can't tolerate it

I find it impossible to knowingly subject a vehicle to certain damage.

A nice ATV can be twice as expensive as a decent used fzj80. These things only sell for $3500-$5000 for a decent one. If someone were to take a newer $30k+ lexus lx450 or landcruiser on a trail like that I'd question their judgement.

Here're four of them just two weeks ago doing the Ruby

Damages: two of the 80's had slight fender flare scratches on the passenger rear.

The dudes that we passed on the ATVs didn't look like they're enjoying themselves in the rain and cold.

I've never wheeled it in the rain--looks fun, and tricky. Cool shots! Got any hi-res?

I've been looking at your pics of the 80 on the rocks and was wondering, have you ever hit the exhaust on the rocks where it wraps under the frame from outside the rails to inside the rails between the cats and the muffler? This seems like a pinch point to me and was curious if there was a way to protect this area.

good evening Dave,
I met you down at SNT 2005 and you had Man a FRE lift on there, from the pics i saw it is not on there any more. Or do you just switch out some of the goodies for others that are working better?
PS, I was driving a lifted 1992 on 36 inch tires and had one black front fender.

Dan,

You really can drive the entire Rubicon unscathed. Lots of people do it in all sorts of vehicles. 40's, 55's, 80's and even FJ's. A friend of mine is a Jeep Jamboree trail guide. They supply him with a new 4 door Jeep. It has no body damage. He ran the 'Con every weekend all summer.

It is all about your driving skills and equipment.

Gee, Dave... Your 80 is starting to look like mine! :flipoff2:

And for the record (ahem, CDan...), I don't try to get body damage... I'm just not worried about getting body damage!

BTW- We really need to set up a time to go wheelin, Dave... You do know that there is a new Crusher in TSF...

No hits there but it does sometimes rattle there against the frame.

Where the exhaust did get trashed was right at the rear. It got munched one too many time and tore all hangers and welds right at the rear canister/resonator. It started rubbing on the pass rear tire pretty bad at full compression, so we had to ratchet it out of the way. Imperfect fix.

Heya Chappy!

Sure, I remember! I had just installed the Man-A-Fre lift, drive it from MAF HQ to Pismo and wheeled SNT! Great times!

After two years of use and wheeling all over including Moab we removed the front and rear drop brackets that held the control arms. The MAF kit was great, never any problems but we did need to keep testing and trying new items, so we put on the Snake Racing front arms (caster corrected) and the rear Wild West Offroad cranked control arms. Awesome stuff.

LOVE the truck Chad--nice PacNW damage there. :D I know it well, all the major stuff on mine is from the PacNW, like the pic attached. Serious mud day, up over the front bumper mud, got stuck, got sideways, trashed the door, broke the rope, etc!!

Heck yeah we gotta wheel. Maybe a snow run with Bobby Long like last year, up towards Mt. Rainier? Or a good mud run through some forest? Just let me know!

I have my tailpipe wrapped up w/some bailing wire after I broke the rear mount. Also w/the 4x4labs rear bumper you cut part of the tailpipe off& it gives lots more clearance.
I get the rattling against the frame also sometimes.
