Hi guys havent been here in a long time. With gas the price is was over the summer and my AC out, the girl sat in the garage the last 6 mos. I still have no AC and need to rebuild the Power Steering. All band aide attempts failed. I long time ago someone on here referred me to a shop that can rebuild my PS gear box. I searched but cant find the post. Can anyone help me out?

I thought there was a shop in north phoenix area that could rebuild it. Taking it off myself is way over my head.

I suggest calling Cary @ Got Propane! (he has a mechanic shop in the same suite, in Tempe) HEre's the website: GOT PROPANE!

480-430-8033 (Got Propane! line)
or
480-921-7375 (mechanics shop line)

They specialize in Toyota's - in fact Cary has built on SICK buggy for rock crawling. If they can't help, they could at least recommend someone who could.

Medtro THANKS!!!! thats what i was looking for. Calling them in the morning. Thanks again.

Called benchwork today. Was quoted about $450-$500 $250 for the rebuilt gear box and about $200 labor give or take. Sound right? Before I drop 500 bucks just want to make sure I've done all I can.

The leak is coming from where the steering colum enters what I am assuming is the power steering gear box. There is a potective lid right over the steering colum where it enters the unit and a buch of hoses coming out.. I have tried a few bottles of stop leak with little improvement. Do I have any other options?

I am considering trying to get my brother, breaking out the manuel and do the wrenching ourselves to save $$. I have no wreching skills, he has some. Or is this too important that I am better off paying a pro?

Any chance that by switching from PS fluid to ATF I might slow of stop the leak?

Are you getting a rebuilt gear box from them, and pay $200 labor on top of that? Why not just have them rebuild your box?

Price from 2004, https://forum.ih8mud.com/149666-post7.html

All I want to do is stop the leak. Not having problems with my steering. Can I just have the input seal replaced? Do I need to ask Benchmark to just replace my seals? Is that the same as a rebuild, or should just replacing the seals be cheeper? Cheeper is good.

Individual seal or o-ring can be purchased from Toyota or other sources if you don't want to buy the rebuild kit.

Is replacing the seals same as rebuild? Well, you will need to find out from Benchworks how they define rebuild.

Asked Benchworks about just replacing my input seal. They dont mess around with replacing specific seals. Kind of all or nothing with them. They do the total rebuild or nothing. They want to keep a good reputation. Cant say I blame em. Im going to first try and drain my fluid an replace with ATM and maybe some Lucas stop leak. Just to see what happens.

It'll stop leaking for a while. Then it'll start leaking again. And it'll make your pump groan. Ask me how I know. :)
It's a stop-gap. That's what it's for. Know that going in and you'll be ok.
Oh, and you could prolly replace the input seal yourself. Possibly without even removing the box.
