I need one. Decided that this is one of those things I'll leave to the professional. Who can you reccommend from GOOD experiences.
 
-1 on Benchworks. I went there for their reputation and was dissapointed with the work done on an early Mustang manual box. Friggn input shaft nut always comes loose.
 
I'm not sure who Vern at Toy Specialists used to redo mine in the diesel last Fall, but it was quick, economical and, so far, has been excellent in use...
 
It's not that hard to do yourself. What is the issue with yours?
 
I just did one, and it wasn't as bad as I thought, but then I had a spare box, and was just resealing it to have a good trail spare (after a broken sector shaft last summer). The Toyota kit of o-rings and seals is about $100.

For a mission critical application like your daily driver, I can see using a pro.

That West Texas Offroad guy has a good rep.
 
The one on my truck is leaking like a seive and needs a rebuild. I have a spare but am unsure of it's status. I was going to rebuild the spare to put on the truck then rebuild the one on the rig at a later date. If the rebuild kit is $100 and having a pro do it is $150 it's worth it to me to have it done by a reputable shop. I'm sure I could do it myself but finding uninterupted time at home to get it done is the hard part.
 
I would do it myself, as Drew said it's not that bad of a job. If you take it to a shop, they wont use a Toyota seal kit, they usually order their seals and o-rings in bulk. For me, in this application it isn't a big deal, some seals are specific to application, in the Toyota boxes that I have done the seals are standard numbers, so any good seal/o-rings in the correct size/number work great.

I called BAP, they have the kit (asked for a '85 FJ60), Gates brand, part# 348407, my cost, $27.99. It's not in stock, 3-4 days to order, let me know if you want it ordered.
 
-1 more for Benchworks. They came highly recommended from an associate at work. I had my '71 FJ40 box rebuilt by them. Sector shaft seal leaked immediately upon installation. I took it back and they fixed it while I waited but that's not really the point. For $180+ it should be right the first time.

I go with Kevin on this. I have heard of Benchworks.
But the steering box is not anywhere near as complicated as an engine. If you have ever wanted to do anything mechanical, try this. The steering box is not hard. Just replace the rubber parts with new ones, and polish the shafts where they meet the seals. Use the finest of sandpaper to polish the shafts. (like 1200-grit).
Mostly, if the surfaces are pretty smooth, leave them alone. Just clean them up with a light abrasive like Scotchbrite. Put the seals in carefully, so that you don't chip them.
I have rebuilt a lot of power-steering racks. The above are the most general rules.
 
I'm not really all that mechanically inclined. I hate getting dirty and a steering box is sure to be full of nasty oil and dirty grease and stuff. Heck, I don't even like to look at tools cuz they just look like dirty grimey things, and they make my tender skin crawl. I might just have these guys at Benchworks do it for me. Do you know if they will do the whole job? Like I just drop the truck off at their shop and then pick it up later that afternoon, while I go get a double decaf-half-caf-iced-mocha-latte-zappaccino? That would be totally awesome. Do they have free WiFi at their shop?

Well, Yea!? You can also get a pedicure, stress massage, and a new Do while your there. They even have free child care with a balloon clown. Enjoy!! John
