So my car is in pretty good condition, it gets tuned up about once a year... But it feels so sluggish. Are there any small adjustments I could make to give it a little more livelyness?

My uncle rebuilt his cruiser's engine and that worked marvels, but that is a little too expensive for me :)

Thanks

And yes I searched, but too many irrelevant results.

You can actually remove your injectors and send it out to be cleaned.

put a supercharger on it and run nitrox mixed with carbon dioxide.

if you tweek the carburator from a honda lawnmower and install it between the third and fourth cylinder, you can increase the boost to the evaporation canister getting you up on the highway faster.

That's only if he has chrome muffler bearings. If they're not chrome, then they have to be removed, polished, then soaked in nitro glycerin for 2 weeks and then re-installed. I recommend using the remote starter for the first 10 starts or 1000 KM - what ever comes first.

Ooh I'm interested. Is there a tutorial page or procedure name I can use for a search?

It's gettin mighty chatty in here
c'mon the kid asked a valid question he's looking for more livelyness
I'm thinking time to add the flux capacitor

but really how about landtanks MAF sensor?

Synthetic blinker fluid?;)

Serious answer - you bought an FJ80, lively ain't gonna' happen:D. There's lots of good info in the FAQ, go do some serious reading. Make sure you're up to date on maintenance, tune-ups, etc.

I agree, and that may be one of the few things your computor's operating window will actually let you do. The problem with rebuilding and balancing the injectors is that you never know how much bang-for-the-buck you're going to get. If your injectors are 8 percent out of balance, and mine are 58 percent out of balance, after balancing to zero percent (perfect balance) you won't notice much of a gain, and I'm going to think I have a screaming hot rod. That's because even your rig was kicking my butt. We believe the injectors are 7 or 8 percent out of balance the day the vehicle is built because of all the injectors that have been sent in to us over the years, we've never found a set closer than 8 percent out of balance!!!

As Colin Chapman, the founder of Lotus Cars, said........

Add lightness.

So in other words just tear out all of your interior

You can advance the timing 2 or 3 degrees. Don’t get too carried away or you can burn a hole in a piston. If you need tires get a little smaller diameter tire.

Yeah I'm not looking for 100-series style zippy, just a little increase. It's soooooo sluggish, it's ridiculous.

More skinny pedal.

Seriously.

You haven't driven a 3FE 80 with 35's and stock gears yet.

X2 on the timing advance, tweak it as far as you can... a little spark knock won't hurt it, but excessive knock will kill it.
In my 94 I advanced it from the factory 3 degrees to about 7 or 8 with just a very slight knock at part throttle occasionally.

2nd tip is to disable the EGR...pull a vacuum hose off it. This will give you a slight improvement in throttle response and the engine will run a tad smoother. Hook it back up for emissions testing.
The EGR system is strictly there to lower NOX by dumping exhaust gas back into the intake to lower combustion temps.
Your engine will run better without it.

these 2 things together will give you a noticeable improvement and they're free!

.

Trapper92: At the risk of sounding like a Douche... when one of my EGR vacuum hoses was disconnected it was easily noticeable. It was incredibly sluggish up to about 2100 RPM, where it took off like it had a turbo. Not trying to sound like a jerk, just my experience. What hose exactly did you disconnect? I wouldn't mind an increase in performance. :)

either of the 2 vacuum lines going to the egr could be pulled off to fully disable the system, as the egr won't hold vacuum with out both of them hooked up.
when the egr is functioning normally it will open under part throttle only, not at idle or at wide open throttle. Why doesn't it come on a WOT, because the system hinders performance! Car manufacturers know this.
Racers and performance enthusiasts have been putting egr block off plates on their rides for years. This is no secret.

I am not saying that this will turn your truck into a rocket, but you should notice an increase in throttle response in normal everyday driving. Along with this you might see a slight mileage gain as well. Pull a line and try it.
The 3FE doesn't have an egr temp sensor so it won't throw a code...but the 94-97 do and will.

At the same time I don't want to be single handedly responsible for an acceleration of global warming....so each to his own.:D

.

Hmmm. Do you know what other problem I would have if my car accelerates slowly, noticeably slower with the EGR unhooked then takes off once I hit around 2100 RPM? I had read that that is a sign the EGR is dissconnected.
