So what is the deal with performance chips? Do they work, are they a scam, do they hurt your vehicle? Does anyone have one in their cruiser. Saw a bunch on ebay and when googled, prices from $40 to $750 weird. Anyone with experience?

I have the Unichip in my '04Tundra. Didn't give the 10% HP claimed (maybe 10HP) or improve mileage much...just smoothed out the shifts dramatically with no falloff between gears. However, this isn't a problem with the Cruiser. I don't think the expense would be justified in a cruiser.

there are some $40 chips that claim to add 100 horsepower and 25 mpg and others claim to add 500 horsepower get 35 mpg. What do you think. Others claim to add 50 horsepower and 50 torque lbs and 3-6 mpg increase.

Hey Ya'll, I was just wonderin. I have been thinking about the k&N intake. I think the chip is more than I want to spend, considering the time of year and separating needs from wants.

I have Jet Chip that I got years ago.

It's still sitting in the box in came in.

I've also considered getting the K&N Intake kit for my '02 LC. (Not the air filter replacement, but the whole $300+ airbox replacement). Does anyone have this installed and can comment on its performance? Worthwhile mod for $300+ bucks?

It makes your truck LOUD! I had it, now it's in the basement due to the snorkel. I miss it's noise. Performance gain was minimal in regards to power but throttle was a little more responsive.

I've got one in mine. Considering removing it if you're interested.

Hmm, so 1loudLX had it but removed it and macneill has it but would like to sell it. Not the most convincing argument to get it, I'd have to say!

Think I'll hold off for now, but thanks for your input guys

I can find a few other things to spend the 300 dollars on, like a new tire. I'm not exaggerating though when I say people could hear me coming from nearly two miles away at night. It was fun & I miss it's sound but nothing else, especially not the speciality air filter and it being open to dust/water.

Swapping the 4 hole injectors for @dirtydeeds 12 hole setup is the best $300 I’ve ever spent. I’m not even through my first full tank of fuel yet and am amready seeing better mileage, smoother shifting and all around better feel.

Do you have a series of before MPGs that we can compare to future ones?

I wasn’t able to do any dyno test before. But I’m almost through my first full tank. Just did the swap last week.
