A couple years ago I saw what looked like a landcruiser on a neighbor's "tresure yard." I asked him about it and the next thing I knew he had towed it over to my place. It is a 1980 FJ55.

I did not realize its uniqueness until I joined Ih8mud. I was going to use it for parts for my other FJ40 projects. Now I am convinced that I should restore it since the vehicle is complete, no aparent soft parts missing, it runs, even though it sounds like a jamaican steel band and the rust that it has is not that overwhelming.

I have no idea where to find body parts for it, however. I would need the two front fenders. Can any of you direct me to parts sources fot the 55's? Please? All I could find is Specter's fiberglass fenders and am not that keen to fiberglass parts for the fender area.

Thank you.

Restore to what degree? Showroom? Driveable? DD?
I think it was Ehsan that made a 55 fender, by hand probably...

Did you say 1980 FJ55? That would be unique indeed. We need pics.

I will get you photos as soon as I can kick this damn flu.

I would like to restore it to showroom condition. However, the prices that I am seeing for the ones that look "clean" do not appear to be a cost effective mission.

I would probably end up fixing the rust, fix the engine, paint it and call it good. It would then be a daily driver.

Is the Eshan you are referring to the same person that is making the canvas tops for the 40's out of Inida?

I checked out your restoration before. It is awesome! Were you able to find any parts in South America? Are there any other parts sources outside the U.S.?

Your cruiser is awesome!

I went into my quonset and the only numbers I could find were located inside the glove box on a sticker with the title "vehicle options" "Do not remove." It lists the following #'s FJ0550073351. There is also a plate on the passenger's side front engine bay, however, I was not able to read the numbers.

I looked on the door pilars and could not find a plate. I will send picture once I get it out of the building my phone cam does not have a flash.

nothing on the driver's front door?

I did not check the doors since they are off on a pallet with the hood and other parts I started taking off. The two front doors came to me un-attached. The top hinges on the pillars are rusted off. This FJ55has a 2F with all the smog stuff, factory air and power steering.

Fount it! It is not a 1980 like my neighbor told me. The plate is on the pillar between driver's and rear passenger's door. It states April 1977.

Do any of you have any sources for front fenders, inner and outer?

I can resurrect this swine if I had the fenders...

I drove it around my farm while cutting and hauling wood until I had to throw sand on the carb during a small fire. Nothing damaged but I have not cranked it since.

I will be going to Chile next month and have been trying to hook up with fellow cruisers from TwistedAndes.com. However I have not been able to find any parts there either.

I have friends in Panama, do you have a name e-mail address?

Cool!

'77 would be a good year to have. '79's got some funky pieces that would make it harder to resto...

So you should have 2F, 4 spd, discs, Aisin hubs... All assuming you live in the US.

Seems like a lot of the "new" Pigs that have popped up have been '74's.

Pics!
