I'm fixing up my parking brake assembly as it had been leaking oil all over the place. Finally putting it back together and I can't wrestle the compression cable back into it's seat. Is there a trick to this? Are newer cables easier to compress? Should I remove the cable completely and do on the workbench?

Any tips would be much appreciated. This thing is a bear.

Disconnect the cable from the pull handle in the cab, or back off the adjusting nuts at the top end.

Following back up on this thread in the hopes that it helps someone out in the future. Went to go try out Redding's suggestion and quickly realized I had the parking brake handle pulled. Doh! I'm an idiot. I released that and suddenly had a lot less tension on the spring making it easier to work with. Problem solved.

Carry on.

Most folks don't realize there is some adjustment possible at the top end of the parking brake cable. Glad you figured it out.
