I just found a picture from working on blower fan. Looks like this one cable with white tie is where you found fuse:

That red/orange/black look the same as the right side connector in post #22. I would think one is ground, constant 12v and a switched 12v. I would pull the plug on the rear DVD player and check the red to black with key off. Then do the same with the orange and black. Then do the same with the key in the ACC position. I think one should cycle power on and off with the key and the other constant.

Yes mine has red/orange/black wires running to and from the fuses. If you look closely at the plastic box thing in your pic it says fuse on it, upside down.

I buttoned up all the panels so off they come again. I'm going to pull DVD player and get part numbers so will do test you suggest then.

I should reconnect and look for parasitic draw long term (week) also, but will be pulling battery in next day or two as I begin a long list of engine work. So I'll just do a few parasitic draw check over 24 hour at most. Either that or alter my schedule....

I'm going to call around to see if any recycled DVD player in town, if not I may make offer on one you linked me to on ebay. $200 is a lot for a DVD, when main line today is blue ray HD. But Toyota Dealer price is just ridicules, even my parts guy LOL at it.

Yep that is it. I said Darn because I missed that being and after market jumper block the first time I pulled head unit, and I did button it back up ...Darn! LOL But that one reason I take so may pictures, not only to share but so I can go back and look.

I've been trying to cross reference the 2002 DVD player with a 2006 DVD player (drop down). I'm finding 2005 -07 drop down DVD in Toyota online parts catalogs but nothing later. Only one I see is the recycled one pointed out for sale in this thread for $200.

Anyone know if the 2002 drop down DVD player is the same/compatible as/with 2005-07?
or
Was it even offered before 2005?

Sweet it's working with no parasitic draw seen on short term test.

I didn't really do anything except two days of following wires and playing with it. I suspect what was gone on; player was continuously trying to spool up. I assume dust and/or lack of use caused this condition so that this would keep spooling drawing power. After I pulled DVD player out of it's cradle (the hard way, can be pulled without removing cargo 1/4 side panel) and disconnecting/reconnecting all wires blocks and playing DVD at various angles with a few lite taps on case it worked. It now plays movies without stopping/ejecting/loading after a few seconds.

I confirmed the red wire is hot all the time. Orange is switched with key. Power goes into a distribution (for lack of better word) box that then delivers AV & power to LED drop down. The drop down communicates with DVD player activating when dropped down with key on. Pushing button on DVD player will active it's power, allowing DVD disk to be inserted anytime key on or off. DVD will then power off if LED not activated (dropped down).

First short cut to pulling DVD player is two thin slits in front face of DVD player on each side. Just push in anything on each side which release DVD from cradle then pulls out from front.

Two boxes above DVD player. All AV & 12V & ground power wires plug at this point!

12v power Red always on, orange switched & black ground go to rear under PS threshold. AV & Power cable from rear going up A pillar.

Thanks for the follow up. I was really expecting to see a shady wiring job somewhere. I think it was @jerryb that mentioned he thought it was an internal DVD issue related to the boot loop. That sounds like what could have caused it if the DVD player is designed to load upon disc detection even though there is no ACC power. Any detection of a disc will result in the DVD player trying to load. I am glad you got it ironed out and we can resume with the restoration.

Me too. Thanks everyone for all your help! I learned a few new thinks along the way.

The one thing I did not get to do anything is the NAV display button REAR SCREEN OFF. But didn't try it without DVD disk in player. What is that supposed to do anyway?

My rear screen off button does nothing. Tried it last night with a movie playing. I did notice that if I turn off the ignition with a movie playing and the screen done it will count down before powering off but the DVD will restart when I turn the truck back on not sure what's up with that.

I just found this thread trying to figure out why this stupid RES DVD player was constantly trying to spool up in my back seat. I believe it caused a battery drain this week. Thanks for the info guys on the 2 fuses tucked up behind the glove box. I pulled the 7.5amp fuse which seems to have stopped the DVD player.

This should be fine to leave unplugged right? The only thing it seems to be feeding is the RES DVD system?

2001LC, Scoin - thanks a ton for the details and pics in this thread. It helped me finally resolve my issue with intermittent drain that I posted about over 7.5 years ago in this thread. Planning to post more details there about how I finally pinned it down, but once I determined it was the DVD Player, the pics here made it easy for me to simply disconnect the 7.5A fuse under the glove to confirm and resolve the issue without tearing anything apart. So thanks and merry christmas/happy holidays etc.

Without going back and reviewing the thread. Seems it was the 7.5 that was always powered on (red wires). You can start with low amp fuse. If they blow to easy, go up in AMP. If you've no fuse in there now, likely it was removed to stop battery drain.

Ok, thanks! I actually pulled them both trying to fix the parasitic drain and then realized they were different. Been dealing with this off and on for a while. Thanks for the info.
