This photo saved me from a long headache. I was chasing EGR problems for the last 2 days.. I didn't even know this hose was there. Mine was had fallen off. Ty again. This forum is awesome.

I had the same code. We wiped it but it came back, so I ordered silicone generic vacuum lines and started taking them off one by one and replacing. Replaced 90% of them of various sizes until I ran out of tube. We had wiped the code again and it’s been out for 3 months now.

I need to replace the last few and the coolant hoses with silicone. Saw a full coolant hose kit on amazon, so I’ll look at the reviews for that.

Glad the op fixed his issue, sometimes just getting in there and getting dirty is the right answer. I’d venture to say 80% of egr codes are vacuum line related

Yeah, mine was mainly due to plugged hard lines running through the intake. "Drilling" these out to get the carbon out of there was a pain, but it got rid of the code!

Can't thank @Steve7 or @wileetoyote enough for this thread and pictures. Same story as many others, Multiple EGR repair attempts didn't resolve the issue only to find the tube 100% blocked. Hand-twisted a drill bit and cleaned it out, cleared the code and it hasn't returned. Thanks again for sharing!!

Resurrecting an old thread, but I honestly believe this should be a sticky thread if possible. There are so many "Dreaded P0401/P0402" threads, I had gotten lost in the madness. It wasn't until after continuing to dig that I came across this. I thought I had gotten all the vacuum ports and metal lines cleaned, but this one for some reason evaded me. Figured I'd show my progress of drilling with a 5/64 drill bit slowly....seems to be more rust than carbon in mine. Hope this helps bring this thread back, for those who want to really fix the P0402 issue, and not just put a resistor in it. Thanks to the 'Mud community for great content!

Roger that regarding this thread! Was about to spend money on new EGR, vacuum modulator and VSV out of frustration. I had replaced/cleaned many of the tubes and ports with no success but this thread kept me going. Finally, I replaced the larger tube from the bottom of the EGR vacuum modulator (it was older and kinda loose) and all is well after a couple of weeks. Replace/clean your tubes! I passed inspection and now the rig is 25 years old and no longer needs to pass emissions! Will keep it clean anyway. Thanks guys!

Time to replace that heater control valve behind the EGR components. That brownish color it a sign of pending failure.
