I bought 40 Square Feet for $96. that is enough for the front doors, the front tranny hump, the front floorboards, under front seats, the rear floor boards, but probably won't be enough for under the rear seat. I recommmend getting the 40 square feet pack and the 10 foot square pack. You will have plenty then. Randy put 3 sheets on each of the inside surfaces of the front door skins.

the shippng is almost $30 because the stuff is heavy. But 4 square feet of Dynamat, at the local stereo store is $40. and Damplifier Pro is supposed to actually be better. However few people sell it. So I bought it directly from the manufacturer: http://secondskinaudio.com
I didn't opt for the higher priced version, the Damplifier Extreme (I think), because the review I posted in a previous post indicated it was not really that much of an improvement.

I had that rust spot in the floor cut out and welded closed this morning at Sunset Paint & Body, a place Randy recommended. The did it in a little over an hour and it cost just $35. Here is a pic of it afterwards, and then I a photo I took of the interior.

I just ordered the carpet. Wish I had done it sooner. They have to make it before they send it. I will have it no later than 17th. I am sure Randy will post pics of the Damplifier Pro install, and I will post up pics after the carpet is installed.

I'd like to hear more about the Chester & Herod carpet when it's put in. They are right around the block from my house and I am curious about the quality of work. I am going to wait until I start my truck tear down to buy new carpets, but C&H is at the top of my list for carpet vendors.

Please post up after the install! Inquiring minds want to know!:D

wow! they are right around the block from your house? and you want to know more about them from me? I am just going on a hunch and a feeling. I am rolling the dice, you might say. I wish you would go in there and check it out for me. I placed my order yesterday. I suppose its too late now.

have you been to their website? I like their attitude, I guess. I like that they have been doing this for such a long time. I have a feeling that a good molded carpet is a lot more iffy than a good cut & sewn one. I don't think small seams will be a big deal. Quality & durability and fit are more important. I will definitely report back. I liked the sample they sent me.

Well, they're really about 20 minutes from my house, but I'm working on doing a full truck teardown, rustproofing, axle rebuilding, V8 conversion, electrical and power modifications, body repaint, and then finally the interior!

So, getting new carpet is about a year away from now for me...which is why I haven't gone to see those guys yet.

But, I've never heard any bad reviews about the Chester & Herod guys. Good Luck!

my new carpet arrived today from Chestor & Herod. I pulled it out and inspected it. The quality of the carpet and the color of it looks top notch to me. It won't be in for another 9 days, but when it is in I will post pics and give my final review then.

I'm half inclined to order mine right now . . .What color did you order? It looks like your carpet and mine are the same color (dark grey). I have a dark blue 1987 - not sure when they changed the carpet colors.

Also, would you mind posting some pics of the uninstalled carpet? I'm curious to see how the cut & sewn looks, how the edges are bound, and if they pre-cut any of the holes. Also, is there any insulation on the back?

yes, I got dark grey carpet. they have light grey and dark grey. but they dark grey is not all that dark. it is a little darker than my origianl carpet, which must be faded. I am not going to take it out and photograph it. the seams won't look right uhntil it is installed. The edges are very nicely bound and finished with vinyl. there are NO precut holes. you have to cut the holes yourself. the carpet is not backed, but it comes with plenty of padding cut to shape. This is a moot point for me, because I have bought a lot of Damplifier Pro to deaden the sound coming from under the truck.

Bit of advice that I wish I would've thought of before installing my carpet: SCOTCH GUARD THAT SHIAT! It'll help protect against water staining (which my carpet suffers a great deal from) and I think it'll help slow down the bleaching effect from the sun; another thing my carpet hasn't faired well with at all.

Also, what exact product did you use for rhino lining the floor and where were you able to get it? I'd like to pull up all the tar from my floor and rhino line the whole thing next time my carpet is out.

I helped Randy install the Damplifier Pro, and the new carpet from Chester & Herrod. Then he installed the Tuffy console I bought from CCOT.

you can see the results here:

http://mannphoto.com/lc/carpetinstall

after seeing the pics and reading my comments, you will see that I am very happy with the quality of the Chester & Harrod carpet ( http://autockm.com/ ), and I am happy with the fit EXCEPT for an unneccessary cut and sewn feature in the middle section carpet (from under the front seats to under the rear seats) that causes an ugly lump because there is just too much carpet.

I called Chester & Herod and told them about this and had them look at the photos. their response? they will make me a new middle section carpet, and send it to me tomorrow. If it does not match the color exactly, they will order more carpet and remake both the middle AND front carpet and sent that. And he said I could sell the unused pieces on eBay!

I think that is pretty good service.

I will take the final installation "beauty shot" when it is all done and post them up on this thread.

Thanks Chris! I know what I will be ordering this weekend!

It seemed the loop carpet was a bit "fuzzier" than the original, but maybe it is just the pics ( or my eyes). Either way, it looks great and I will be following your lead.

I think CCOT may still sell the wheel arches, if I am not mistaken. I never really considered them before, but I think they look great in the pics and match really well.

I can't tell you how well the timing of this thread is - thanks again.

Do you think they did it that way so that the carpet is supposed to ride up above the back seat floor brackets and keep them covered? I just don't understand why they added that part - clearly it was intentional.

Either way - I will be plunking down my cash in the next few days.

I just did this all - tear out the old carpets, pull the old padding out, damplifier, new padding and new carpets. Ordered the SOR kit. I threw in a new deck and speakers for kicks. I chickened out on the install and had a professional upholstery shop do it. Was planning on a bunch of photos, but the camera died. I'll post up some photos of the finished product and give a review, as well as some good tips. Your install looks great, by the way.

What did you guys do about the plastic wiring channels in the front section? I assume the new kit did not come with them - did you just staple the old ones onto the new section?

Anybody have any updates?

jgordon- You get some pictures? How did you like it all?

Yes the carpet is finished and it looks nice. It lays down fairly flat after you get it in there. And the old channels that were good I reused. I used the extra carpet on the edges to roll under and give the channel area more padding and it helps fill the void. Chris777 will get some shots of it posted so he can give you his comments. As for an install point of view. It is worth the money and the little extra time to cut it in. Stay tuned for the final pictures.
