Gatekeeper? It is you who is taking this personally. I could care less. But since you are sooooooo obsessed with infotainment and seemingly so pissed off at Toyota for falling behind others, i am amazed that you still own a 2013 LX.

I see on other forums how many would just die for the durability and reliability of LC...those on those forums with fancy electronics just beg for a few months of trouble-free operations. And here we are just begging for those fancy electronics. Don't get me wrong, i am a techie. I have all the latest tech at home/work (for better or worst).

Terrible infotainment? I (and many others) get by just fine. I would love to have CarPlay but i find ways around it. No biggie. Now, if LC did not come with life-saving tech (pre-collision, blind-spot, etc), then yeah, i would have (much) bigger issue. But as is, LC has plenty of tech for my (and my family) needs. For example, my wife and I refuse to get 4runner because of lack of blind-spot. But lack of CarPlay is not nearly on the same level of importance.
I'm not pissed, I just think it is an oversight on Toyota's part. It isn't that important, like I said before I bought the truck when it was 7 years old so I knew it would be outdated. I just find it appaling that in 2020 the sytem is so far behind others, including other Toyota models. I like my LX and it has none of the other tech you mentioned. Again, if Toyota can update THAT tech why can't they update the infotainment? It's just dumb and I pointed out, everyone went ballistic telling me now that tech is tested for 25 year durability. That is just dumb.

As for a 4Runner, well you made the right choice. Not because of blind spot warning, but the terrible engine/trans combo. I had a 2017 and it was terrible on road (great off road)

I’m with you. Safety features are there.

My 14 LX is not hopelessly outdated at all. Everything worlds flawlessly. CarPlay is overhyped. As are most apple products and God help me if you find me talking to Alexa in my car. I am genuinely curious what GM/Ford offers that Toyota does not when it comes to tech aside from USB ports and WiFi.

But for me, Toyota updated the RIGHT part of the vehicle. I much value PCS, blind spot, adaptive cruise, etc. much more than CarPlay. Heck, i wish they use REAL wood trim (in LC) more than CarPlay! Why? Because working around CarPlay is easy. The gauges are fine...easy to read with plenty of info. At least i know that an electrical glitch won't knock every instruments like it would on an electronic dash!

The 4runner would be for my wife...powertrain is not an issue as long as it is reliable. But blind-spot for her (or lack of) is a deal killer.

LC instrument cluster won't have this issue: Ford Recalls 4,212 Mustang, Lincoln Nautilus and Navigator Vehicles for Instrument Panel Issues

The Nissan Patrol/Infiniti QX80 has a live rear with lay flat 3rd row.. so can be done and there is no hump/etc..We did look at a QX80 before going with the LX back in '17

Also their infotainment system wasn't that flash either
It most certainly does not lay flat, it is at an angle. Drives me nuts. And infotainment is worse than 16+ LX by far. Probably on par with the 13-15s.

We are likely getting rid of our QX80 for a 2016+ LX.

Did people on this forum in 2007 talk about the upcoming 200 series as a car "full of new electronics that are bound to fail"?

I'm not sure exactly what electronics were added between the 100 and 200 series, but I assume it was significant, and it has shown to be reliable.

I don't understand why people seem to think Toyota would be unable to build reliable versions of all the tech named in this thread. Our only option for reliability can't be to stay in the 2008 tech world, right?

The electronic differences between my 2004 Cruiser and a 2008 200 are minimal. Electronic 4LO actuator. That’s about the extent of it.

Mechanics aside - the electronic systems were similar (excluding crawl control etc).

Give me a 40 gallon gas tank and the 200 is damn near perfect.

The installation of a LRA tank is the best upgrade that I have made to date. I have a 64.6 gallon capacity.
I usually fill up with 20 in the main and 25ish in the aux and drive for 500+ miles between fill ups.

But in 2016, Toyota made significant improvement to Land Cruiser (not sure about LX). Really, the ONLY thing that is missing is CarPlay. Under bumper sensor to open hatch...not sure how useful since we have a clamshell rear hatch. Electronic dash provides nothing useful...it is just prettier and flashy. As for push button gear shifter, etc...that’s personal taste that most hate anyways.

Adaptive cruise made a huge jump in 2016. PCS works. 360 camera. LEDs everywhere...and boy, are the headlights powerful! Blind spot with cross traffic.

For me, the BIGGEST issue i have with LC (not LX) is the fake wood trim. That irritates me more than lack fo CarPlay (again, because i have a work around for it). $85k vehicle with fake wood trim! :(

Yeah a customizable screen for gauges does nothing for me. The eye fatigue alone from sitting behind it sucks. Especially at night.

Is the steel on the frame different between the LC/LX or are they similar?

Why would you suspect they are any different? They should be identical.

The economies of scale to tailor something like a frame just wouldn't be there. Nor would the need. The LC and LX share a core platform. The differences are generally in the accoutrements fitted.

I got a used 2016 in 2018. I like the 8 speed no issues to date. I tow a boat about once a month and have zero issues with that. I am currently not missing any tech features I don't currently have but then again I am a fm/am radio kind of guy. I bought an LC over Lexus as I wanted coil suspension. I have for time being left the 3rd row seats in I may eventually take them out. Especially if we get the second Shepard. It is just me and my wife and German Shepard. We have plenty of room for road trips and on few occasions loaded up 6 people. I not really fan of gas mileage but then again I can afford the vehicle so I can afford the GAS. Plenty of power from engine and drive train. I can pull the boat at 80+ and not really notice its back their. I was not initially a fan of adaptive cruise but have since change my thinking on this as it works seamless running on 2 lane blacktop to Interstate freeways. I always wanted an LC and I finally have one. I will be keeping it hopefully about 20 years. Good luck with what ever you chose.
