it may change a bit... but in five years it will still be well above the price range of most who like to wheel. That said the fundamentals of why he dislikes the 200 won't change... can't say I disagree with him at all though.

I'll probably get stoned or ostracized for saying it but I like the 200 Series. You can already find them in the high 20s and low 30s with decent miles, give it 5 years and they should be in the low 20s, just like the 100s have done. Yes, they are expensive but what LC hasn't been expensive off the showroom floor? The price tag on my '07 when new was close to $60K. Fast forward 5-7 years and I paid a fraction (small fraction) of the sticker price for it so I don't think price is the factor. Most any clean 40 or 60 will have a buy in price tag of 20K and up. To me that's a steep buy in price for a vehicle that's at least 25 years old. No offense to owners of any generation LC as I like them them all, I just think people need to give the 200 series a chance.

A mildly built 200 is a very capable rig and that 5.7l is so nice. It sure makes turning 35" rubber down the road that much easier while being able to haul a LOT of gear and or passengers.

I'm not saying its a terrible vehicle at all. Just not what I want a cruiser be. If I had the money to buy a new one I would look elsewhere for a brand new 4x4. It is simply too large to live up to the land cruiser name. It would make a great overland vehicle once it got off the group a little and the super low clearance bumpers were removed. But at the same time there are much cheaper options out there for overlanding and light wheeling.

My old 80 was 35k back in 91.... expensive??? Damn right but it was also very competent right out of the box.

To me the 100 is as large as a cruiser should get..... and I like large vehicles. I DD a diesel suburban and my 80 was light years ahead of it in terms of wheeling ability. Same thing with the 200, only difference is I can close the gap easier and a lot cheaper and that is the only reason I tolerate not having a cruiser right now.

Sure if I won the lottery tomorrow I would maybe consider buying one but for the average person 84k is a lot to buy something that doesn't wheel as good as its main competitors (Jeep Grand Cherokee (available with a great diesel) or a land rover, yes I know it is by far more reliable but that gap is closing with all the R/D money Tatra is throwing at it.

Even used, 20k is still quite a lot for the average guy to spend on a vehicle that he is going to go beat up on the trails. (I realize that this will more or less true depending on income levels)

But to each his own. I respect your opinion on the matter and know not everyone will agree with the author on it.

I didn't aven read the article :D and a 79 could be nice but I'll Agree with steelman. Albeit highlanderesque and previous to 2016 the funky protruded head and tail lights but a solid Platform with power to boot. A first in LC world but to keep it real I hear 13mpg is still standard.

Everyone hates on each new platform it seems. like the one I listed the other day now under 30k and the 3ur gets good longevity/reliability remarks from what I've seen 8-9 years in now. Kinda standard Toyota fare.

Kurt at cruiser outfitters new ride. I'd rock it if you guys don't want it. It's a 4Runner on steroids basically.

Per tradition just needs a 2" lift and 33 MTs

62 body, 80 frame and built suspension, 6.2L vortec is my dream cruiser.

my dream cruiser.... hmmm if money was not an option i'd try to keep it all toyota for the hell of it.

80 series..... 1HDT-FTE, 5 speed, Tundra 10.5 rear axle, custom diamond front axle using a 10.5 tundra 3rd with 80 series birfs.

Built suspension, and a crawler box. 37" tires for DD and 39.5 for wheeling. Bigger turbo and tuned ECU.

I'd love a built 60 series to use as a wheeler :steer:

Actually i'm split between the 80/60 or 100 body.... all the rest would be the same

ok.... never mind I take it all back..... this is my ultimate cruiser

Where are you guys shopping? I have been looking for three years now and the only sub 30k I see have 200k on the clock.

STAY AWAY FROM IMPEX AUTO SALES!!!!

I don't want to publicly say they're crooks, because that would be unfair...

to crooks.

Makes sense... Probably safer than starter fluid. I wonder if any legal firecrackers would do the job?

FJ40s are hot. Lots of folks out there "restoring" them that never heard of them 5 years ago

Rest/Mods are actually out selling full on restos. I remember helping a buddy prep his 66 Mustang 2+2 for the New Hope Auto Show in PA. He took second to the Mustang National Champion of that year. He was down graded for things like an improper bolt and washer under the hood.

To me that is what restoration is, as it was when it rolled off the factory floor.
