Not many people out today on the side streets. We got a thick layer of ice that frozeunder the snow before the snow started. Car did fine even on the balding summer tires. They didnt like it when the boost came on with the ice though. This thing would be a monster with snow tires.

Also you can really tell where the heat from the turbo pools under the hood thanks to the snow.

At some point I'll use this as a template for where to put the vent.

Fail hill climb, why you should ALWAYS use your side mirrors to reverse out of a failed hill attempt

I figured I would post this here.

I needed some new red LED bulbs for the rear lights on the Cruiser. I did some quick research and found numerous complaints of LED's failing to differentiate between running and braking. However, lots of LED lights out there claimed to be brighter than stock, a plus in my book.

I ordered two pair off Amazon and received them today. My driver's side brake filament was out so I replaced it first. The LED light was definitely brighter and there was a distinct difference between the running and braking output. I installed one of the other pairs of LED's in the passenger side. It was slightly brighter than the LED on the driver's side with better difference between running and braking. Sold. I installed other LED in the driver's side.

And now the rest of the story. I installed the LED's during the day. I decided to check them again at night before I commit to using them. I flip on the lights and the garage is filled with glowing red. I hit the brakes and it gets brighter. This isn't just slightly brighter than stock, this is low beam red and high beam red. The light output is so strong that it will surely piss off everyone around me and probably have any law enforcement nearby stop me. This might sound odd but now I have to search for LED 1157 brake lights that are not as bright but still have a strong difference between running and braking output.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Running: LED on the left, incandescent on the right (yes the LED looks like I am hitting the brakes).

Braking LED on the left, incandescent on the right. The LED is crazy bright.

Finally LED vs LED wtih braking.

This got sent around the office email this morning. Picture from last night. The abandoned viaduct in the snow just down the street.

Makes it look like the city shut down.

Mask off the lights and hit them with a light coat of matching body color paint. Hit with 3000 grit when dry... sand till it’s the brightness you’re happy with. :)

Anyone tried this stuff? Assuming the video works.....does the magic cloth? I mean anyone that’s gotten ‘great stuff’ foam on their hands will attest to the staying power of that crap on skin... that said, by starting the process with grease he effectively shielded his hands?

Still - that whole ‘never puts it back into your skin’ thing is almost impossible to believe.

Discuss.

Going along with our conversation tonight. This looks real cool.
I would love to do the Every Man Challenge at KOH in the a few years. A competitive truck would be a challenge to build but not impossible and not too ridiculously out of reach, budget wise.

I haven’t read the rules and or safety requirements for the class but again, nothing That can’t be done.

My goal had always been to race Baja, But this looks just as fun or more and even more doable.
