Trouble shooting a vibration that has made it though the suspension and tire refresh.

Comes on strong at 65-70mph, stops again and kinda changes based on the road surface.

Going with 555 TRE's from @cruiseroutfit that I just ordered. Lets see what the relay system under the truck is doing.

Something doesn’t feel great. Definitely wheel bearing play, I feel tie rod ends should be tighter.

We’re going at it-

Tie rod end kit from 555
Koyo wheel bearings
105 series spindles with needle bearings

Just installed a new dobinsons steering damper.

Front end should be 100% before solid axle summit.

I was going to snug up the wheel bearings, but I can’t find my flat nose snap ring pliers. Amazon to the rescue tomorrow.

From what I understand you do not need to source 105 specific spindles, the new PN for the 80 has the needle bearings in them.

A little dazzle dazzle.

I couldn’t bring myself to pay $200-400 for a used oem when I know I’ll have a real bumper at some point.

Still available new. 52111-60540

Wait for the 20% and Free Ship. Can be had for $180

80s rule !! see-ya at SAS

Well, we found the cause of my wobble.

I had a completely beat up tie rod end on the passengers side. It was so bad that it allowed the tire to change toe and shake.

555 TRE from @cruiseroutfit , they truly saved me in this one.

I was going for full tilt parts canon, but even that wasn’t enough.

As soon as I pulled the hub off to do the updated spindle, the soup began to pour. The inner seal had failed and as much as I wasn’t mentally ready for a knuckle rebuild, we were right there and I had good friends supporting me. Lucky Steve is a terrain tamer supplier or I would have been stuck.

So we dug in. It’s been 10 years since I did the knuckles on my 60. I’m rusty to say the least. My buddy’s David @MuttJ60 does this very often at @samc2447 ’s shop, so I was honored to have him lead the way. When I did this 10 years ago, it took me 3 days in my parents driveway. We got this done in 4 hours.

Amazing.

As soon as I backed out of the shop, I could already feel the improvements. Driving back it was a dream. Had the cruise control pegged at 80 on the toll way, and it drove perfect.

Koyo wheel bearings
Terrain tamer knuckle kit
Updated 80/105 spindles with needle bearings.

I can say now it’s truly ready for wheeling next weekend without a doubt in my mind. That’s a good feeling.

The 80 is cheating. Easy lines and absolutely flawless suspension.

Still love my 60.

Sure is ! I drove a built 40 all day on Tuesday
IMG_0394.webp
It was definitely a cool ride linked front and rear but still not the 80
Today I got to drive a 75
IMG_0402.webp
The one in the middle, my wife was with me and was like can we get our 80 back 😂
That’s our 80 on the left and IMO rode way better than the 40 or the 75 even built out on 39s
It was great to drive the other Rig to compare how other Rigs drive.

I see your at SAS and so are we 😎

My 80

Canyonlands outside of Moab. Did the white rim trail to airport.

Easy peasy in the 80. Cheating.

The 60 wasn’t loving life but it did it all. Spit out the edges of all of its leaf spring bushings and was running warm but didn’t overheat.
