Do you guys know if the old style doors with the fart chaser and the gear drive door handles fit in place of the new style doors with no fart chaser??
............ surely the doors from a FJ40 and a 45 are the same arnt they?

fart chaser?

AFAIK yes the doors are interchangable, you'll need to change the door striker to match the door.

I'm guessing that a fart chaser is a wing window.

You guess right Rufus. Why not just fit the newer doors you have with factory vent windows like the ones fitted in Australia and other markets? Those bolt right in and are a GREAT addition.

As far as changing new doors for old: yes, they fit, but it takes a bit of fabricating to get the old-style strikers to fit the 75-84 tub. Also, you will not be able to use you door limiter from the newer door, as it they are different.

Further, if you are putting the old doors to an 81-84 40 series, then your door-activated dome light will not work without a bit of modification.

Much easier to get the guts from an Aussie door to put the vent windows (fart chasers) into your doors...also no need to re-paint.

Thanks Josh
I was talkin about the vent windows when I said fart chaser my dad always called them that and it always made me laugh
there was a set of doors for sale in the buy and sell for a 40 series that i was thinkin of grabbing if they had the fart chasers and the old style gear drive door latches ......... i just always thought they were cooler ..... my FJ40 has the older style doors and the windows work nicer in it in my opinion.

Unfortunately they were the newer style ones

im not sure what the doors look like that your talkin about.
are they pretty weather proof as far as drafts when everything is closed up ....... I drive this thing fairly long distances in the winter minus 25 C quite offten

Wait.... wait.... wait....

You can bolt the wing windows from the newer AUS doors into the late model doors available here? Why didn't I know this before? I'm pretty sure my life won't be complete until I source the parts to do this some day... ;)

I'd agree though. I like the later model doors on the later model trucks, and since the late model doors were available with the wing windows, it just stands to reason...

Yup, they bolt right in. Look at your US-spec doors. See those two little 1/8" holes: one in the middle of the front pillar and one about 4" back from the front of the door one on the top pillar? The ones you have to move the weather strip slightly to see? Yup, those ones. That's where the top bit of the vent window bolts in.

See those three 1/4" holes at the bottom of the door, 4" back from the front of the door under the door panel? That's where the bottom of the vent window bolts in.

I put Aussie vent windows into the doors of my US Spec 83 FJ40 and have sent several sets up to the US from down here in the Nanny State which are now happily residing in doors from Colorado to New Mexico and New York to Mass.

They are very cool and have the added benefit of making the window stay nice and firm in the track and never rattle.

I don't know how you missed that, Dan:D

Well there's my problem right there! I have Honduran doors. They have been uber-bondo'ed and I didn't think to look at Dad's good set of doors (oh, I'll be doing that today, for sure).

Me neither. Sounds like I'll have to work on getting a set sometime in the next year about the same time I source decent doors for the 45...
