Ive seen their hurricane air in many 45's. which is what im going to try this summer. will be putting it in the center console area. plenty of options for air if your going custom.

I put a Yokahama 747 under dash system in my RHD LX to replace the factory system. It works FAR better than the factory one did on the modified Freon. I got it at the air con place in Port Adelaide on Grand Junction Road. They hooked it up to all of my factory air con stuff and I would never go back to factory unit now. This system even kept my interior cool in Adelaide summers.

Awesome cheers for the replies guys. I have searched for the Yokahama 747 but can't find much info about it. I like the look of the hurricane unit, does anyone know how it cools. Will be needing something pretty decent for the heat up in north Aus.

Jarz,
I ended up having my local shop bring together different off the shelf pieces to make my system work. Chamba mentioned Yokhama back when I was installing in 2010, but I couldn't find a vendor in the US and ended up going with what my local guys knew. My problem is heat. I stripped out everything on the inside that could insulate to make sure water didn't have a place to hide, but after about an hour of running in the summer, Mr 2H transmits more heat through the firewall and floor than Miss AC can effectively handle. I would be curious to hear what you find as the best insulation solution as you do your install. Good luck.

Flatland,

So, you don't have anything on your firewall, inside or out? What do you have on the floor of the cab. I'm thinking of the Old Air for my 55, but I have multiple coats of Lizard Skin everywhere. Trying to get an idea how it will work.

Thanks, Ron

Yes I have big heat problems as well and I'm looking at lining the floor and firewall in combo with the ac. At the moment I'm looking at 2nd skin audio products to quieten the cab a bit and will add a thermal layer like heatwave as well. http://store.secondskinaudio.com/heat-wave-pro/
I think the firewall lining is a pretty good option, haven't decided on a product there. Oh and I also bought some magma wrap for the exhaust, hopefully cuts out some radiant heat.

Does your Yokohama look like these 747 units? http://www.4s-europe.com/media/upload/pdf/181/100104-7.Evaporatori_standard.pdf

Do you have any pics of the unit installed?

Hi Jarz.
I am up in the N.T and it is F&^%& hot and very humid all year round..
I have installed a Hurricane in my 40 wich is also my daily driver / work truck as my HZJ79 has some brake issues.
Heat issues come with any cruiser, I installed a sound deadner from the top of the firewall all the way back. ( my 40 was chopped and a 45 cab rear section installed)
I then purchased some heat / sound barrier underlay from the foam and rubber shop and installed exactly the same. as hi up the firewall all the way back. Use roofers insulation tape on all your join's and you wont have any issues. any spot you leave uncovered will allow heat to enter real quick.I unbolted everything from the fire wall installed both sound deadner and heat insulation then bolted everything back on. This also holds everything up and in place so no little bits hang down or drop from under the dash.

My center console is a WAECO fridge freezer which sits at about 1 to 2 deg all day.
When I use my HZJ79 and have the fridge in that it works its tits off and will only hold low temp when traveling or with the doors open and a good breeze in the shade.
The unit under the glove box is not the AC i hatted the look of that.

Wow. Short45 really did the deal. I'm sure that would make a huge difference! To answer scapdaddy, I'm bare metal on both sides of everything. I can't speak to the impact of coatings. I think I'm so afraid of rust though (Florida can be a lot like the NT), I wouldn't feel right if I couldn't rip it all up quickly to look underneath.

I like looks of the second skin product. I'm trying to imagine taping up a full floor blanket that I could tuck in when I have the cab on, and pull out when the doors are off. Maybe I could keep the firewall piece full time...

Looks like a neat job there short45. Im keen to do some longer trips so i want to make it comfy (as a 40 can be). Do you think the hurricane unit cools/blows well enough? Are you in Darwin? If you are it would be good to check out your rig and see how you did the ac install.

I could not get that link open, but here's a pic. Bear in mind flatland, Florida is a bit like Darwin but to be just like Darwin, wait until mid summer, then close all the windows in your house, cook a turkey in the oven with a humidifier in each room and start a roaring fire in your fireplace. Summer on Darwin is called the silly season for good reason; it's over 100 most of the time and nearly 100 percent humidity. I've never felt heat like they have-not even July in New Orleans, Orlando or Atlanta can compare.

Here is how it looks at current.
Need to finish the dash and install 2 more vents in center and make new gauge cluster.
Get there eventually.

I am in Darwin and you guys are not wrong about it being hot and stinky all day.

You guys crack me up. I concede Darwin is worse than Florida. Short, I'm curious as to the plumbing you have. Cold stuff comes from the compressor to the center console. Makes humans less cranky. I think I get that. How does cold stuff get to the fan under the dash to push air out of the circular dash vents?

The Unit I have is the Hurricane IP-1100.
The fittings exit on the top side through the firewall.
My shorty is 1978 and had a grommet for the wiring harness on the firewall exactly were these pipes go.
Matched the existing hole with a hole saw and then attached that to my new hole saw ( larger) as a pilot bit. Sparky trick when you drill the wrong size.
My unit has the electronic heater and vent controls via the billet dial you can see in the dash on a previous pic.the 4 pipes come out directly next to the rib on the firewall and behind the accelerator cable, but do not interfere at all.
If you use the 3100 I think which has the fittings from the bottom and mount it similar using the existing grommet location you have to cut out the glove box to raise the motor assembly up under the dash. As my luck strikes again Aus had no 3100 available and were on back order at the time.

If I was to do it again I would build a cradle for it to secure a little better and use the 3100 so it is not so much in view.

hope that makes sense ..

I also installed the firewall Insulation barrier after I noticed the unit would condensate big time while idle at the lights as the engine bay temp are at there worse when you sit still. This made a huge improvement with the condesating.

Do you think it's possible to mount the unit in the centre under dash where the original blower is mounted? I see you have your locker switches there but I have enough space there in my 47. I have seen it done on the lhd, do you think there is enough space there to plumb it up on a rhd?
