1. Did you buy the original Sender from the Toyota dealer # 83520-55011 ?

or #83520-35020 Is the same but with a ground terminal

2. I hope you didn't use teflon tape or any other (insulation) stuff because the sender has to make ground contact to the engine.

Post what you find out. I have a '78 fj40 (9/77 build) with the same problem. Got busy at work and had to stop messing with it for a while, but what I found out is there are a few different senders right around that time period. If you own a 78 get used to this sort of part # issue. I blew it by not getting the part number off of my original, then losing it in my garage!

Well, i started all over again. New oil, NAPA filter (same as the Wix it came with) and.........NOTHING!!!!!!!

Took a deep breath, opened up the instrument panel, cleaned it all, re built it.............NOTHING!!!!

There is definetely oil getting into the sender and the guage still works if earthed.

I'll keep trying and let you all know, next im going to try the pressure guage.
