Ok, new to me 68 FJ40. Oil pressure gauge shows nothing. I grounded the wire hooked to the sender unit and gauge goes full over, so assume gauge is OK. Ordered a new sender from Cool Cruisers, the cheaper one. Installed it today, still nothing. I wonder about the cheaper sender unit, maybe should have gone for the OEM? I did use Teflon tape on the sender unit, which may cause a ground problem, but, it has a ground lug on the sender and I attached a ground wire to there, so that should have given it a good ground. Suggestions????

Does it actually have oil pressure to show you? Did it suddenly stop working? Have you removed or loosened you dizzy lately? Also did you wire brush wherever you attached your ground? I have the same sending unit with no issue.

Its new to me, I have put about 200 miles on it. Previous owner said it was working at one time but had quit and he had not got around to finding out what the problem was. If it had no oil pressure I am sure it would have thrashed by now. Gauge does not move or wiggle any at all, unless you ground the wire and then it goes full over.

please post some pics of the arrangement.
CCOT sometimes has some reliable stuff(SOMETIMES--and that is mostly mechanical-tubs/fenders/seat covers, etc. Electrical is not one of them--everything I got from them in this area has failed in less than 1 year)and no, I don't want replacements that will fail again) Learned my lesson the hard way-OEM all the way, unless it just can't be had( and then I will look to Mark's or Cruiser Yard/ or Orange/or SOR for a rebuilt before buying aftermarket.
As for the sender unit--did you get any kind of voltage specs with this unit?--The sender needs to be matched with the gauge to work properly. Do a search on gauge /clusters--there is one by (I trhink-BJ40Green) that will give you all the info you could ever need---

Looking at the other post about this shows the one I have being 24 volt. Cool Cruisers has no info listed on voltage. I am going to call my local dealer tomorrow and order a OEM from them.

I can ground the wire that hooks to the sender and guage goes full over. Used to have a mechanical gauge rigged up to check oil pressure, but cannot find it when I need it. Have a new one on order, just to make sure there is oil pressure. However, previous owner has been driving it for a while and I have put over 100 miles on it with no problems, so it has to have some or it would have thrashed by now.

Test the sender as shown in post #6 to see if the sender works.
TIP: This test needs a running engine.
You can use a 3 or 5 Watt running light bulb.
Does the engine have a good ground?

Engine has a good ground. Have total of 3 sender units now, none make the gauge work, very doubtful all of them are bad. Waiting now on the mechanical gauge to make sure I do have enuf oil pressure

If it were mine I would test like shown above. It will show you a couple things. A. If engine has adequate grd. B. If it test correctly as described it is in your harness and removes sender as suspect. Also would be time to take a closer look at the gauge its self. Etc.

Also is there a chance distributor has been removed or clamp is loose? Could be engaging oil pump partially at a certain rpm range and not at idle? Is the distributor stock?

I wouldn't drive that vehicle unti your new mechanical gauge arrives and you've actually verified that the engine is making oil pressure..

Did the light bulb test, seems to work fine. No light when not running, running light is dim, rev engine light gets bright for second or two. Intermittent flashes.

You / the sender passed the test.
Still no needle movement when you hook it up?
