Oil pan impaled by floor jack saddle

I'm a little confused what is needed to RR the upper pan. Does the engine come out or just get free of the mounts?

The front axle, a crossbar and the sway bar bracket are in the way so you can't get the pan out. In order to get it out you have to do a combination of things: Remove the sway bar and bracket, raise the frame, drop the front axle, and lift the motor about an inch or inch and half off the mounts.

Rookie2; yeah, forgot, read about those other things.

pinhead; I was expecting the mechanic to mention something like what you said about the bearings, he just said he "goes by experience"; I honestly didn't get a warm fuzzy from that. Would you suggest checking the bearings while the pan is off? I've done a few oil analyses and they've shown slighty high lead, average for my engine at 15ppm, where the "normal" average is 2ppm. I run my oil for around 8-10,000 miles, and the normal numbers are based on 5000 miles at Blackstone. The lead numbers haven't been getting any worse.

They said it would come under collision, I sorta thought maybe comprehensive would cover it but the lady said no, that is for something out of your control like a tornado or a someone throwing a rock through your windshield. She also said because the car hit something instead of something hitting the car. My policy is nothing special other than I have rental car reimbursement and I decreased my deductible last month from $250 to $50 in anticipation of driving a rental in the snow and ice over the holidays. That turned out to be a lucky move.

Bringing this back to let people know what dumb mistakes can cost; the final repair bill at the dealer for replacement of both the upper cast aluminum engine oil pan, the lower steel pan, the oil strainer/pick-up tube, internal pan/baffle, and the oil level sensor (all new Toyota parts): $2400 and change.

Thats a whole lot of jing

So when are you gonna tackle the front end rebuild? Hehe

Ouch! At least you are back on :steer:.

Tenzig Norgay: Lucky for me it was covered by my insurance, very lucky. Gotta get back on the horse so going to attempt the front end this weekend. If I have another major disaster I'll buy a Chevy and never been seen or heard from again.

wxm: yeah, back in the saddle of an 80, big difference from a rental Camry. Not as quick off the line but I'll trade that for the extra space, view, and capability.
