Drain oil pull it with socket not Phillips screw driver, clean it check the wires and plug, clean the hole it goes into, reinstall you can put little fipg around the flange area where it mates if you think it's gonna leak
If your going hrough all this get a new gasket

Also having same issue as of last week ('97 LX450, 193k), intermittent on/off of the dash indicator. I did remove/clean the sensor in 2015, no need to drain oil. Easy-ish access, no big deal. Following the clean, the factory level indicator seemed to read lower than before (lowwww third at warm idle, just below 2/3 at start up) but dipstick level is good.
I don't want to be a $#*&, but are you confusing the oil pressure gauge on the upper left of your instrument cluster with the low oil level warning light? The low oil sensor on the upper pan has nothing to do with the oil pressure gauge.

^^^^^^^^ Exactly right. Its a good thing to point out 'errors', for the sake of others that will read this at some later date.

We want folks to be able to come to the MUD site and get good, accurate information.

Maybe. I guess my question now is do I trust the low oil indicator light or the oil pressure guage/dipstick test? It all seems related in my mind, but I am always open to correction.

There's no maybe. Period.
Look at the wiring diagram. The oil pressure gauge sender and the oil level sensor are on opposite sides of the engine, have two totally different jobs, and are not interconnected nor are giving similar information. Now, you should be looking at your oil pressure and seeing how it moves with RPMs and oil temperature (viscosity). Notice how the oil you use will affect pressure when changed.
The oil level sensor is basically a total "frill" (extraneous, unnecessary) if you check your oil by hand frequently and don't have a horrendous leak somewhere.

Check. The reason I piped up is that I did notice an immediate and significant shift in the oil pressure gauge post-cleaning of the oil level sensor, maybe I was just in the cups.

No oil pressure at all here, no light.
Been like that since i got it a few months back.

Is there a way to check the sender or else.
Thanks.

There is a small sub harness that goes from the PS fender near the washer bottle over to the AC compressor clutch and oil pressure sender. Often the harness breaks off at one of the connectors on the sender, the spade connector for the ground connection.

Yes the oil LEVEL sensor gasket is available. Onur just sent me one for a few bucks, cheap. On that note, is there anything other than the electrical plug and 4 bolts to remove it? Do i just unbolt it and slide it out or do i need to finagle sliding out a sensor arm or anything?

There is no such thing as a "factory level indicator". Only dipstick.

Perfect timing on this thread. Since the question of removing the sensor has come up, it looks like I have a leak at the sensor directly under the timing plate cover (under the oil pump). I cannot find it in the factory repair manual. I thought it was the level sensor, but obviously not. Pressure sensor, or oil pump gasket? And I wanted to make sure there were not going to be any hornets nests opened up by simply unbolting it and replacing the gasket? Any chance someone knows where it is in the manual? I have only found the level sensor on EM-12.

... it looks like I have a leak at the sensor directly under the timing plate cover (under the oil pump). ...

The crank angle sensor? Often when oil is in that wire run area, the leak is from the front crank and/or oil pump seals.

So far that looks like it. Can I simply remove the cover and replace the seal? (after draining the oil).

After looking around, I found this Youtube link on another post about resealing common oil leaks on the front of the engine. Great info.

Ok, thanks, i'll check that out.

I see two wires there connectected to the sender, the rest seems fine.

Could i jump wire these two to see if the gauge works?
