Oil leak after switching to synthetic

This happened to me too, but I stayed the course thinking the benefits out weighed the downside. A leak like this eventually needs to be addressed anyway. I use high mileage M1 and by oil change time, the seal swellers had time to work and it stopped. But at least I know where to keep an eye on.

I just put in high mileage M1 because local Walmart was out of regular M1 and it turned seeping front main and oil pump into dripping leaks. Not happy with it and was planning on drain and refill with regular while I replace both next weekend but maybe I should be patient.

I have considered running M1's Delvac 1 in either weight offered, as last I knew it was a true group IV synthetic base stock, as it has served very well in my duramax for the last decade and 100k miles. Also would be 1 less verity of oil to keep around. Though I have been running Valvoline VR1 10-30 which dino squezzins, with very high ZZDP content just for the reason old engines like zinc. The delvac has a very high Zinc content as well though I have been holding off swapping the 80 over to it, to avoid the seal washing tendencies of the synthetics, and that would be exacerbated by the additives package for the Diesel engine oil formulation. That and its getting close to winter, it gets kinda chilly up here this time of year (-20F is not unheard of) and a 40w oil seems a little thick even for a 1FZ in that kinda temp, and 5-30 is very hard to get my hands locally.

I am running T6 with no leaks at all. 5W-40

When I switched to Rotella T synthetic 5w40 I developed some leaks. After several oil changes, the leaks went away. Some were just seeping and one was a flowing leak. Switched to at 210,000 and still using new T6 version with Motor Oil Saver additive to control start up smoke.
There are some oil spots on the oil pan but nothing leaks to the ground.

If the leak is from a oil sludge dried out gasket, the syn oil will clean out the oil buildup and you have a leak. Given time the syn oil might rejuvenate the seal unless the seal is broken. I fixed a couple of oil leaks and the gaskets were dry and cracked. Nothing will fix a broken seal other than replacing it.

Hey guys. I've had to top the oil off once. Since then oil level has been perfect. I just checked it again this morning and oil level is dead on.
