Chimyz, What's your opinion on rear diff locks? I read your Trans Africa trip and if seemed like you didn't really need them.

Unfortunately that's not me writing about the Africa trip...it's 4x4tripping. I wish I had funds, time and cojones to do a trip like that. I find it hard to squeeze in a Sunday morning fish between family and work.

My 0.02 on rear diffs...
On the 200 with VSC, Crawl Control and all the other modern electronics, I'm not sure I would be in a position to use it. I always seem to wheel with someone else and if the current setup can't handle it, there's always a tow rope handy to pull me out.
My take on modding is to make a list. The top is things that will give you the most advantage and at the bottom would be the wish list. I think from most to least important (personal thought based on use and terrain) would look like this:

Tires
Suspension
Wheels
Brakes
Engine improvements
Extra battery
Lights
Protection (bumpers and winch)
Storage
Compressor and/or air
Upgraded axles and diffs
Diff locker
Roll cage
Seats
Diesel motor swap

I am not an expert, but simply an ex-spurt (as my father likes to call me) so please note again that this is just my opinion.

All that being said... I had full lockers on my older cruiser and once got it stuck to the windows in snow...I'll tell you, it didn't move until I put the lockers on. Once I did, no problem getting out...it was great!

I was asking RTaylor...not you, why don't we let them reply. I know you are trolling and it's a shame you have nothing better to do.

Keeping on topic, I was curious as to why the wheels don't suit the configuration? RTaylor, is there something you know about these that we don't?

My opinion of the wheels is based purely on their looks.

When you drive with 33" Mud tires on the Land Cruiser 200 - you have a lot more than the locals in africa.
Where you see that the last car seems to had a lot of work to get through, you mostly can drive relaxed.

I guess with 35" or 37" Tyres you will miss some action, because it is just too easy :hhmm:

The electronic helpers did a good job, therefore a Frontbar with winch and a recovery kit, a ground anchor and something like Maxtrax / Sand ladders first.

Therefore the Electronic helpers will help you with breaking, you will find some holes where you want (not need) to push faster through. Here lockers are handy.

Our trans africa there were three incidents where I assume that some types have tried to make a trap for us. They want to earn money with recovering us.

Each time there was not enough time to use the lockers, because the situation don't look that worse -*but it was.. The electronic stuff saved us each time

In the eyes of the guys on two occasions i saw - they don't thought that we made it...

Therefore for the LC 200 - lockers are more optional..

@justdifferentials: nice pictures you add here

just fyi, in the US they only come fully loaded for 2013 - $82k

Be happy that the cars are that cheap in the us.. Here in Switzerland you only can buy the V8 Diesel - for a bit above 130'000 USD..

Surfy

Cost is realitive in Switzerland as the population has allot of Millionaires. A friend of my wife's moved there making $450k as a Radiologist for a telle rad company and could only get "rent" a small 1700sq.ft 3br. 2ba "$6,400mo." in Zurich. He moved his family back to the U.S 1yr. later. If anyone wants a taste of Switzerland landscape the most comparable and recognized as such "Ouray, CO". We love going there and it's World famous for ice and rock climbing. Place is Heaven without the high cost of Switzerland.

If you were going to spend close to $95,000 for a truck...why not the extra $700 for UCAs, or $3200 for UCAs and LCAs? There has to be a good reason, and I am just wondering why? Quality, availability, didn't think of it? Something. Maybe I'm alone in wondering, is it not odd?

Agreed.

UCA's should be required with any 200 series lift. SLEE makes them now.

Not mentioned on slee website ? Anyone got them plz post pics ..

^ X2 ... I have been hoping that Light Racing would produce their arms for the 200

I'm having Slee put his on my rig Aug.26. He probably hasn't updated his website yet as these were just designed and built by his specs for the 200. Cost is $525. I'll post pics when they get installed.

He's also designing shocks for the 200 that aren't high maintence.

Thanks / plenty of pics / 2-dozens please :-)

Reliability. At least that's why I haven't installed the Total Chaos UCAs. Experience says that the durabilty of those urethane bushings and uniball is not for those who like to take long trips to faraway places. I'm sure they are great for racing, but they are not for those of us who take our Land Cruisers hard offroad while being very very very far from home.

Slee now have OE type ball joints and bushings. Are there any reported failure of the TC controlarm?

Hi Angelo
Any updates on this ? you got the UCA's ?

The world is truly small, esp for 200 owners.

In my chats with icon and some other vendors, you guys are based out of Spokane? Wish you were in Seattle!

I love the setup. Looks amazing.

And in my hunt, the slee uca units are one in same as light racing. Please correct if wrong. I posted a link in another thread but some 4runner guys posted up light racing uca failures. Not sure if it's a true reflection of their quality. I bought a set and is currently being installed to get some much needed caster dialed in to improve steering fee post lift.

Any real diff between the ome 61029 shocks v the icon rear shocks since you'll likely be running ome springs anyways?

We are located in Cashmere WA. Two hours from Seattle, so not far at all. As an update we added the light racing arms to the truck. http://www.justdifferentials.com/JTOUCA-TLC200-p/jtouca-tlc200.htm

Yup, sounds like a popular option resold by several trustworthy vendors at diff prices. Good to know you guys exist. I would've dropped off my LC at your shop if timing was on my side. thx.

Ps are you sure you listed the right size? They look wider. 305-70s. I don't think they even make a 34" 285 tire.

I'm a bit torn on the wheels - busy - but they are Hutchinson's so the real deal. At some point I'll come asking about the UCA/LCA and need for them with a lift on a 2013' but not now since it is doing duty as the main kid hauler and I'm putting it off limits from anything but tires. The truck looks great BTW..

The rig looks awesome, awesome enough to resurrect an old thread!
