This is an awesome build. Just discovered it... Nice work. I'm just about to start a teardrop style project that I don't think has been undertaken yet so reading yours was very I interesting. I have an Australian TREG coupler on my trailer and have been very happy with it. It solves the deformation issue you had and has a locking pin option that essentially locks the trailer to the vehicle for security. Might be something to consider.
 
I love the treg design, but with no one carrying parts in the US, I'm weary.

Lock N Roll has been slow to get me my replacement parts, should be next week now.:rolleyes:

I talked to a buddy at Proffitt's and he said that they had the new design, and that it works. We'll see.

Wow - great build.

I had a similar problem with my lock n roll coupler just towing a little loaded M101 in Coyote Canyon a could of weeks ago. The portion on the trailer shows the same misshapen tweaking yours has. Receiver portion on the truck is ok - not mangled like yours is.

Fully loaded with wood and gear, I'm probably only around 1000 lbs, so much lighter than what your build is.

Well, believe it or not, I'm STILL waiting on my replacement parts. Allegedly, the new stuff will be assembled and ship tomorrow, but I'm not holding my breath. BTW, I somewhat straightened out my hitch and coupler and have been using it just fine without issue in the meantime.

I should also be getting my cushion and mattress covers in and installed in the coming weeks.:)

Love to see pics of the teardrop when you get going. I'm thinking myself of doing a more "offroad" teardrop than the usual ones you see.

Did you find plans online? I've been looking around at some.

Great job with the build. I would like to see some inside shots as well. How much overall room did you end up with?

Great build. You made it all look so easy.

On the Lock N Roll mangle.. thats usually caused by a jack knife backing up. .. thats wild yours bent so badly in regular conditions. Im confused as to how Brents bent too.. We've been using our LockNRoll for years now and i've never bent it. It's rated for much more than what we are all using it for.

Good luck getting the parts ... thats one of the reasons why AT doesnt sell the Lock N Roll anymore. It takes too long to get stuff from them. They're too busy with government/military jobs.

Thanks. I'll get some more interior shots up soon. The interior is suprisingly roomy, enough. We showed up this past weekend at an established campground with a bunch of friends. They were suprised by not just the functionality of the offroad trailer, but the fact that I didn't skimp on the creature comforts. That's awesome, because that's what this build was about for me. All the function of an offroad trailer, but all the creature comfrots of a nice popup.:cool:

The cushion/mattress covers are on the way from my mom who lovingly made them for us (out of black microfiber). The mother-in-law is working on curtains for the bunkends.

My Lock N Roll is rated for 6,000lbs, and my guess is that the trailer is at most 2500 wet and loaded. I think the rotation limiter was reason for the demise as can be seen in my youtube video, but I can't say for sure. What I know is that I didn't backup at all before we noticed the deformation.

I ended up having to have Lock N Roll refund my money due to their inaction and repeated false promises of rectifying the situation.

I hate to say this, but to my fellow mudders...

...DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH LOCK N ROLL.

I have not yet dealt with AT, but I will be replacing my Lock N Roll with an Adventure Trailer Max Coupler at some point, and I've yet to hear a bad word about them.

HOWEVER, in the meantime, my Lock N Roll is still functional albeit extremely disappointing.

I'll try to get more pics of the camper up in action soon. Fortunately, my reason for not posting up much is the camper has been great and we have been out camping and enjoying the outdoors more this spring than in the last 5-6 years since we started our family. I couldn't be happier!:clap:

Well, I finally got a few more pics.

Here's the galley:


My only complaint is that the factory stove has squat for BTUs. I usually cook outside on my propane converted Coleman triple burner, but before I get out of the camper, we like to boil water for the french press coffee. It takes a little bit, but then again so does getting everybody up, dressed, and ready to go for the day.

I got the mattress/cushion covers from my mom and they are awesome! They not only look and feel fantastic, but they eliminate that foam smell and really give the camper interior a great finished look and feel.

Here's the "master" bed. Note my soon-to-be 5yo outside with his cast. He broke the crap out of his left arm above the elbow shortly after we got back from a camping trip two weeks ago.



My assistant insisted on being in every photo. Kinda like a sales brochure model I guess. Anyways, here's the dinette cushions and the rear twin mattress with covers.

Lastly, the dinette transformed into the lower fullsize bed.

I gotta Sportsmans Guide GC burning a hole in my pocket.

So the next project on the camper is going to involve this:

Portable Tankless Water Heater, Camping Accessories, Eccotemp Systems at Sportsman's Guide

It's going to mount externally with quick disconnect auto shutoff water fittings, and a quick disconnect propane fitting.

This will provide hot water on demand for the sink (think water for the french press already at 110' instead of ~50' and dish water) and an external shower.

It may sound strange, but I'm looking forward to taking a shower everyday when I'm camping and/or hunting.:meh:

What's next in line for mods on this rig...it can't possibly be done..;)
