Finally got my TJM Airtec snorkel and got it installed. Thanks @mcgaskins for the sage advice and letting me pick your brain on the fly!
Couple things I learned:
Mine did not "lay down" perfectly along the quarter panel and A-Pillar after I drilled the holes and was test fitting as Matt's did. I am not sure if the 2008 LX570 Quarter panel is slightly different vs the 2016 LandCruiser quarter panel, or if I just suck, but something to note. When using the provided template you are instructed to line up the top of the template with the top of the quarter panel, but there is also a mark to align with the the crease in the quarter panel. These did not match up for the LX. If I aligned my template with the top of the quarter panel my crease line alignment mark was about 2CM too high and visa versa. I ended up aligning with the crease mark as the snorkel has a bend to mate up with the crease line and I did not want that part off. Once I started tightening everything down it all snugged up nicely and the snorkel is now tight and flush against the quarter panel all around.
Using a stepper bit to drill the hole out give you much cleaner hole than a standard metal bit and allowed me to slightly oversize the holes which gives you some wiggle room on alignment.
I did not have to do anything with the AIS hoses. The inner snorkel body is pressed up against them but they are semi flexible and a little push was all it took to get everything aligned. They do not appear to be pinched or constricted in anyway and no CEL's or other side effects. Matt did the same but did not re-install his fender liner. I did reinstall my fender liner. No issues.
No wind noise!! I took the truck up to (Autobahn) highway speeds and no wind noise at any speed. This is a HUGE plus, my Safari on my FJ was definitely not silent.
No wind noise but it DOES make noise! At WOT it makes a fantastic intake honk. Never noticed any intake noise inside the truck with a snorkel before, I am guessing this may be because the largest portion of the intake faces sideways towards the driver. Definitely an unexpected bonus. It is subtle but adds a nice bit of growl to an otherwise very muted V8.
