It took me several years to talk mrs surfpig into going. It’s been an annual thing now. Except for this year.
Do you actually need a pass or can you just show up and tent camp? I think I might be able to make it this year.
if you are going to spend the night on the sand , you have to buy a spot. Go to Oceano Dunes , camping, and get the info.

What’s the local channel on the beach this year ?
just keep driving to pole 6, you'll see the ropes set up for the kids area and then you have to choose where to park amongst the couple hundred cruisers and camps for the surrounding 500 yards or so.
Dont get lulled into being too close to the waves, high tides can move up the sand quite a ways, and there's always somebody that gets wet in the middle of the night.
usually 2M simplex 146.4XX take your pick....
bring a flag mount so you can bolt in one of them to your rack or bumper so you are visible.
you guys coming in late Friday night, the tide will be rising until midnight.

Hey gang, this tide thing concerns me as I'm 1) Pismo newbie, 2) stock 100, 3) not best of health physicall (can't handle getting stuck in tidal flood).
So, can someone w.pismo experience chime in on river crossing windows of risk (like what is an acceptable high tide for cars or?).

I've done Pismo about 6 times so I'm no expert but here's my advice:
Even at high tide you can still drive on the beach, you're just driving higher up, and the sand might be a little softer but still no problem. My biggest advice is AIR DOWN ! Yes, its a pain to do esp at night and when weather is bad, but you need to do it. I air down to 16psi and I have never had an issue.
I have only ever had the chance to cross the 'river' once and it was maybe to the rocker panel and really no big deal.
There are a ton of people around, heading up and down the beach, so even if something goes 'wrong', you'll be in good hands.
Don't sweat it, you'll be good.

Well, in my condition, getting stuck in a water situation is ill advised
That being said, wife and I bonked after spending the last day + preping/packing the cruiser. Thus failed to leave at the designated time (3a).
Good news x2
1) we avoided the thousand oaks fire, which broke out Fri early am (3a coincidentally). Thus traffic was stopped on the 101 w. massive traffic jam.
2) I have a prepaid and FREE to you pismo reservation for tonight (fri) through tues am. So, if you missed the boat, this is your ticket (can be emailed)

Can anyone comment on the air quality down there? I'm up in San Jose and it was terrible here today. I'm traveling with a 2 year old.
Leaving LA now! Lol was supposed to leave at 2pm. Starter crapped out while I was getting stuff for the air compressor so I went home and changed the starter and the oil lol. Then I got side tracked with other stuff. Hope I can figure out my way around and find some friendly LC people.
Air quality is great. We are here with our little guy too. Drove down from the Bay today where it was super smoky and being near the water here is so nice.
