Pretty new to posting on here so please forgive my forum etiquette.

I have a 96' LX450 and was searching CL when I came across an OEM center console refrigerator from a Japanese HDJ80, the price was right so I picked it up today.

I have searched the forums, and could not find a lot of reliable information on an install from the diesel HDJ to the gasser FJ. From what I've read it connects to the factory AC. What kind of modifying does that require? Does having an LX450 make any difference compared to the FZJ?

Is there anyone out there who has installed one of these cooler boxes into their North American 80 series?

Any information would help.

Thank you!

I have one in my JDM Cruiser. There is a lot you are missing. The A/C system is plumbed from the compressor back under the floor and comes up into the cab. It then hooks in the center console fridge. You need the hard lines and I think a few valves. There is a thread that @mot added the factory service manual pics. I'll try to find it.

One of the first things I did was take that damn fridge out. I need a center console there for stuff. There is a lot of plumbing down there to the ac system. I think you would be better off just getting on of those DC fridges if you must have a one between the seats

Hi guys I've bought a fridge recently and attempting to fit it to the car. First phase down with the console fitted with just the piping left to be done.

I fitted one. I have a 4.5 U.N government spec “poverty pack”. Electric wires were all there. You only need the hard lines which I was lucky to get.
I love mine. Less than 30min and I have ice for the whiskey and water.

The only draw back is if you do hard off roading and you switching the car on and off to help others your air con does not keep up. But in this case treat it as a cooler box and it works great.

I have both a north american FJ80 as well as a HDJ81 with fridges. If the fridge came out of a HDJ81 from Japan you will run into the RHD/LHD issues. PM me your number and I can walk you through the whole thing. There are quite a few parts that you need. If you are on the iPhone we can FaceTime. As far as language goes Im sure we can figure something out. If you speak any of the following we will be fine - English, German, Japanese, Mandarin, Indonesian.

I happen to have the US model taken apart right now so I can show you all the parts you need.

Regards,
Herman

Will a RHD Fridge not fit into an LHD? :-/

Yes other than the cup holder bring on the right side you may need to take this off the console. How do you plan to plumb it in?

I've just been told that "the main difference (which makes it impossible to use RHD fridge on LHD truck is the location of the inlet/outlet for the a/c lines on the bottom. RHD fridge has the lines close to the right side of the fridge (relative to the vehicle), while LHD one has them on the opposite (left) side"... is it impossible to move the lines to the other side?

Makes no difference unless you have the OEM refrigerated lines that are fixed and not flexible.
