I have done a ton of research and have come to the conclusion that all things considered an Odyssey battery is the best overall choice.

With that said, I bought the battery that Odyssey indicated was the right one for the 80 series and it is a 34R-PC1500T-A.

I got it out of the box and it looks like a little baby battery. It is dwarfed by the Sears battery I replaced. Is this the best model for an 80 series that is wheeled alot with a ton of electrical gear on it?

Is there a model that better fits in the 80 series battery slot?

I use the PC1700 in the drivers position. It fits nice and has the terminal in the correct orientation. The odysseys are expensive however. When it comes time to replace it I will most likely go with another Sears DHP like I am using in the passenger location.

Does this 1700 have the reversed posts or do you have to rerun your battery cables? You are absolutely correct about them being expensive. Having a dual setup makes having an Odyssey less necessary. How would you compare battery life between the Sears and Odyssey.

Did the 1700 require any mods to install?

The other thing I liked about the Odyssey was how well it handles vibration. What are other considerations outside of cost that makes you prefer the Sears?

I have used Odyssey Batteries for years and have one group of 5 - PC925's that I have been using in a vehicle since 1999. They still are working well.
To me the piece of mind they provide are worth the investment.

The 1700 has the posts reversed (looking at the picture, the + is on the inside when used in the USDS position).

The 1700 is also available in a metal jacketed version, which is what I have.

I may have had to put a piece of wood underneath to bring it up to the correct height, don't remember. I can check.

I thought it was already discussed and discovered that the Diehard Platinum is a rebadged Odyssey so why pay the extra for an Odyssey?

If there is a difference besides casing color and badging I'd like to know....been eyeing a DHP

The battery in the divers position is not a PC1700, at least according to Odyssey and to me as I have owned one. The PC1700 is too large to fit in the battery tray without modification. You most likely have a PC1500 or PC1750 in order to fit in a stock tray without modification.
The PC1700 is about 13"x6.5"x7" without the metal jacket.

The Sears DieHard Platinum is in fact a re-badged Odyssey. Enersys and Sears have had an arrangement since 2007. Not certain when or if it ends.

FWIW, I have a Sears version of the PC1500 in my 80. I am a single battery system with a winch and all the other goodies.

I have dual pc1200s in the battery tray with a little modification to battery tray. they work without any issues.

Well, not sure what to tell you then. My battery is in fact a PC1700MJT. The only "modifications" I had to make was putting a 2x?x? piece of wood to raise the battery up a bit and to clear the rounded contour at the bottom of the tray and to slightly bend the j-bolts as the battery is slightly wider than the bar.

Well, for one the Odyssey battery lineup is much more comprehensive than the DHP. If you find a DHP that works for you go for it. The odyssey comes in may more sizes, has different combination of terminals and some models come with metal jackets for added durability.

Just because Sears rebadged a couple models of Odyssey's extensive battery lineup does not mean that the DHP is a replacement across the board.

Does anyone have details on which Sears batteries are rebadged Odysseys?

Well then I'll be eating the proverbial crow. There was no way to shoehorn a PC1700 into my truck. I had to have a custom battery tray made.

I bought an Odyssey, which is a fine battery, but the dealer undersized the amp hour rating (my fault, I should have checked) and I also wound up with a "tiny baby battery", so, after learning the Diehard Platinum is manufactured by Odyssey (plastic case instead of metal) and checking the cranking amp requirement of my 2K starter (710 amps) I measured the Group 65 DHP, and it's a perfect fit in the battery box. With a 930 CCA rating, there is plenty of extra margin, and though the battery posts are reversed, with no option, I just tickled a little more slack (I know, I know, theres not much) out of the cables, and it hooked right up. On sale, I got mine for around 180. Two years later, my battery monitor indicates there is still 76% of full CCA capacity left. I think the Sears DHP is the best aftermarket upgrade value out there.:steer:

Someone once told me on year three, you should take a screwdriver to the terminals and take it back, unable to explain why it's dead.

New battery.

All platinum batteries are a relabeled Odyssey.

Yes, I believe this is true. What I meant was that there is not an equivilent DHP for every odyssey, only a very limited subset.

Like I said, if one of the available DHP fits your application great, otherwise you could consider the odyssey.

For example, most DHP (actually all of them from what I can tell) have the terminal reversed which work great in passenger side applications. Used in the drivers side, the terminals are reversed requiring some fix. There are many Odysseys with the correct orientation.

Now that wouldn't be honest, would it?

x 7 or whatever on Odyssey being the most bad ass batteries available. Dont let the small size fool you its what inside that matters. The Odysseys have many more plates than other batteries of the same size. I finally killed one in my flats skiff by leaving the key on for a month or so. It was put in 07. I have had other AGM batteries ythat only lasted 3 years in a boat. Boats are hard on batteries. From lack of use and trolling and running em down to nothing. I have never been more impressed with a battery.

The group 35 is reversed and works in the drivers side on the 80 series. It isn't as big as the 65. I'd rather have the 65 as it will fit and has more cold cranking amps than the group 35 but it doesn't come with the cables reversed. Reversing my cables is going to be a pain as I already have my PIAA lights and Warn wench wired into current setup. Too much effort to rewire so I'll likely go with the 35 on the drivers side.
