My father-in-law gave me an old firefighter's oxygen tank. Ken helped me weld up these brackets today to mount it to the frame. I'll post some photos of my compressor sometime too. I mounted it in the rear quarter panel...

Nice Nathaniel, Youll be able to run airtools at 2200psi, should make tire inflations fast!

Seriously though... good idea.

CO2 or just SCBA

It's a SCBA tank.

And no, not 2200 PSI, my compressor only goes to 120. BUT the tank isn't very heavy -- probably the same as a steel air pig, but it won't rust and it is very thick-walled. Quite robust for mounting under the truck.

I will have more photos soon. The tank is in place, just gotta run out and buy 2 more fittings....

I got it all buttoned up this morning. The soap suds are from testing for leaks. (No leaks yet...)

The air line just goes and hangs inside the rear bumper for now, with a quick connect fitting. I want to keep the system as simple as possible.

Maybe in the future I'll add some T fittings and branch off to a train whistle or an air suspension controller... :)

Oh, and if anyone is interested, the wiring is as follows:
-45 amp breaker mounted to the side of the d/s battery box (came with compressor)
-10 gauge wire running under the vehicle to the d/s rear quarter panel
-Viair pressure switch with integrated relay (90/120 psi)
-positive side of the relay is activated by a wire from the old factory subwoofer harness, comes on with key in ACC
-negative side of relay is connected to a thermal cutoff wire which comes out of the compressor. In the event the compressor overheats, this wire gets disconnected and the relay will shut off.

The compressor is a Q-Industries Q89 aka MF-1089. I bought it off Amazon for about $120, got free shipping to Blaine, and paid $17 to have it sent to the Victoria airport via Seawings. It has a 40 minute on / 10 minute cool-down duty cycle. Supposedly puts out around 3.5-4.0 CFM at 90 PSI.

If I really get worried about reliability, I could always buy a second compressor as a spare and it would still be cheaper than a Viair :p And higher CFM too!
