Hi all,

I've got a quick question I could use a little input on.

I've got a 1994 80 series and recently ran into a little issue out of the blue with REALLY Rough idle, stumbling, lackluster performance (as if there is any real performance from an 80) the check engine light came on a couple times over the last two weeks or so = code 26.

I unplugged both O2 sensors last Friday just to see what would happen, It idles as smooth as can be with no apparent issues other than the check engine light is now on constant.

Would you all agree that the O2 sensors are most likely in need of replacement ?

Appreciate the help...

Yep there toast. Don't waste your money on anything other than OEM. Call Beno or Dan and get a set, they run about $200 I think, but like I said don't waste money on anything else. Also, you might consider moving the sensors up from the factory locations and putting them into the manifold where there PAIR system currently resides. This will keep your expensive new sensors from getting damaged by debris or moisture.

how do you do this?

Are these units not Denso....ie Rock Auto is selling same as dealership?

My 94 O2's fail slowly and make the motor run rough. I have run them unplugged for a few months and plugged them in and they worked for several more months. Some say you can remove them and heat them with touch to clean them. I have not tried doing that.

If you dont have emission testing, you may want to just leave them unplugged. I have run with them unplugged in the past and just unplugged them again do to the O2's going bad again. I have yet to see a reason to get new ones other than to pass emissions. My gas mileage is the same, idles great and no power loss. I am in the process of comparing gas mileage but my commute is different from the last couple of years but so far the mileage is higher but I am running all hwy miles 171 miles per day. My EGR is not working but I have seen no change with it disabled.

I am sure there must be some negative result from running with the O2's unplugged but I haven't see one.
I would like to know what they are???

There are threads on here on how to remove your PAIR system. Basically you take out the two air injectors from the exhaust manifold, remove the plumbing that goes with them and the air pump. Then you just screw your new o2 sensors into those two holes and run the connectors up from below. Takes about an hour tops.

NO ! They are not Denso, and you will screw yourself buying the ones from rockauto. Trust me, I tried it. My 97 takes Denso o2's and I was able to use the ones from rockauto with no problems. Tried that with my 94 and it still threw codes. I ended up spending the $ on factory ones from Beno, fixed the problem and have been fine for over a year.

Early years used the NTK/NGK sensors, don't know the exact dates however. RockAuto sells those also, but no experience using them myself.
