Nice! Downloading pics, will get something up soon.

Well it turned out to be a great weekend to be up there. Temps were in the high 70's to mid 40's. I think the big thing that probably won't surprise anyone is that all the rain has made the trail in a bit more fun. There is a chicane near the bottom where it is particularly dug out which can pose a challenge to vehicles without some sort of traction aide.

Phulcrum, Shanduh, EddieH and I made the run. We decided to stay at Bailey's which after a run to Alder Canyon was probably the right call due to there being a lot less bugs at Bailey's.

Friday: I had quite the truck repair adventure going. I installed Dobinsons dual rate springs and new suspension bushings a few weeks ago. Out of nowhere I developed insane death wobble. My steering damper had leaked and I found a procomp sort of close replacement that got me through the trip but it's clearly underdamped for the application. My steering box had been going and I have adjusted it but it's in that rapid wear stage so I replaced that but still had wobble. Thursday afternoon I rotated the tires and retorqued fasteners which corrected the wobble so the trip was on for me!

Here is three of us at the air down spot...

There was some beautiful views as we made our way down with the sun setting behind us.

Ok let's skip to the good stuff. We had carne asada tacos for dinner which were so very yummy.

We enjoyed some good fire time before turning in.

I have always appreciated how the sun lights the mountains as it creeps up.

Our first point of exploration was to head up Alder Canyon. The night before 2 Ford Rangers were trying to lose us on the way in. They ended up going to Alder and us to Bailey's so it didn't really matter who "won" the race but it was kinda funny. They were stock, new, and going to get some healthy pin striping. Anyway, we saw them at one of the camp areas up Alder.

This is the creek camp that is to the right of the fork on the way up. It's a short off shoot and can hold 3, maybe 4 rigs but beyond that everyone gets too spread out. Due to the water being scarce but there, and standing in spots, there were a lot of bugs and yellow jackets. I like this spot more around February when the water is moving and it's cold enough to keep the bugs down.

This is the turnaround at the top of Alder - as far as you can go on wheels.

One interesting thing was the difference in temperature between Bailey's which is about 2,200' and here which is about 2,800'. 500' of elevation made it noticeably cooler.

After this we made our way to Horsethief Canyon. Even though it's late in the dry season, last winter's rains made the washes more interesting and in some places more technical.

In other places it was wide and smooth sailing...

We found a nice shaded place for lunch and Wyatt got some wheeling time in.

Mid day we got back to camp to relax. The kids decided to conquer a mountain.

Tim decided to get a headstart on dinner which was some of if not the best chili I have ever had.

First he prepares himself mentally...

Behold a cauldron of culinary heaven..

We spent the afternoon and evening just hanging out and taking it easy.

The next morning we got to enjoy another sunrise. We used the opportunity to use up some leftover carne asada combined with copious bacon and eggs to make amazing breakfast tacos.

After lots of food and coffee we packed up and headed out. We took the main wash as far as we good but you ultimately have to get onto the trail in/out which is tighter and more technical. There was a lot of flexing of the axles.

The hardest spot was that chicane as you start the climb out of the valley. It drops driver's front into a hole and then as the front climbs, driver's rear drops and stuffs the passenger rear. Without a traction aid you need a lot of flex or momentum to get through it.

Got to enjoy the morning views on the way out but it's slower going than in year's past so budget some more time if heading down there.

It's not anything like incessant rock crawling but there are a lot of these little obstacles for which you tend to slow.

No step on snek!

After all of that we aired up and made our way home. I really like the ride quality of these Dobinsons springs mated to the OEM BP51 shocks. I ran 16-17 PSI and the ride was smoother than ever before.

Once home I unloaded and hung out with my baby girl while my wife took the boys to a friend's bday party. Sorry for the blurry picture, she was on the move.

That's all for me!
