Those 350s might be good for heavy duty loads, but well, that comparison is apples to oranges...

Its just a better truck no matter how you compare it. So are the new f150 2.7 gassers if you're worried about apples duty rating.

I do like old trucks, as they've sucked the truckiness out of trucks, but rebodied legacy iron like these can't come close to comparing to new designs and technology.

"T" wont sell them here, because they wont sell when compared to anything else at the price point.

Rebadge them with a Merc star and call it a "G", on the other hand, and people on Nantucket would pay 110000 all day long.

It's all about how much you want to pay to be different.

Please, This thread is long enough!

Man, what a red herring.

Why did Toyota stop with the cool solid axle trucks in the west anyhow?

I'd take a 20 year old LC over a new Rubicon.... I'm sure lots would, some would prefer the turn key reliability of the new Jeep, but give us a new solid axle Toyota and put it on the lot next to a Rubicon... I'm pretty sure I know which one I and most are going to take.

Guys it is not because all mud members can't believe it that it is not true....i was able to legaly registered here in Canada a 2004 kzj120 and a 2012 hzj79 as well....i am not preaching in mike's favor but i fully understand if in fact he was able to legaly import them not to divulgate the `how to`. i am not endorsing by any means is behavior on here but there is always loopholes in the laws or crooked gov. workers that can let you do it.....loopholes got donald trump elected isn't it ? :poof:

Yeah, the Rubicon would slaughter the 70 series, if that is what you are talking about. You're not even going to get a lot of actual buyers from Mud. It'd be $70k+ for a low option work truck. Not even sure why those are that expensive. You figure most of the tooling/engineering was paid off before my 80 series was rolling down the line. (Yes, a slight exaggeration since they had to tweak stuff over the decades.)

Not sure if anyone is interested in one that is painted beige and is a 6X6, but I have successfully imported and registered 3 of these in Oklahoma. I just picked these up at the port in Oklahoma City and am looking to sell only one to the highest bidder on this forum. Let the bidding begin.

Canada has different import laws, much different in some regards

and if by 'loophole' you mean winning enough electoral votes to get elected, then yes.

I was thinking the other way around.... Maybe I'm out of the loop on the greatness of Rubicon's these days. I'm sure their aftermarket support is better, but I thought Toyota's drivetrain/line is superior.

As for price, I guess it might be like a snap on vs. craftsman scenario... kinda paying for the name. But, maybe if they were available to the west they would sell more of them and cost wouldn't be so ridiculous.

@mikeshomeworks - you've been a member on here for only 5 days and have managed to discredit yourself in a rather irreversible direction. It's obvious your claims are untrue as you can't even provide members with requested information.

Do you know what's even easier than checking boxes and filling in info on DOT and EPA forms?

Pushing that little, circular button on your camera or phone and snapping ONE photograph of the vehicle.

Talk about being special...

Don't give up so soon......I would expect another chance to own(scammed) one of these from the seller......he just needs to work on a better story and maybe borrow a 79 from on e of the upfitters back east.

This is almost certainly a scam. I am not saying the vehicle isn't here in the US, but its very unlikely it is here legally. Why do I know this? I called the EPA Vehicle Import Division and had a lengthy conversation with an EPA representative. He said there is absolutely no way to import an Australian vehicle to the US by paperwork alone, and register it here permanently. There are exemptions one can apply for, but this would limit the time the vehicle could be here in the USA before having to be exported or crushed. He said, unequivocally, the only way to legally import a 2016 Non US Land Cruiser for permanent use would be to do so through an ICI (Independent Commercial Importer), have it PHYSICALLY modified to meet US emission and safety standards, then have the vehicle tested by the EPA. In full disclosure, he said people have made the necessary modifications to new vehicles and had them approved, but he said most have reported spending over $10,000 to do so. This gentleman made no mention of physical modifications, so therefore I am left to assume they were not done. Hence, my strong belief this is a scam.

To be absolutely certain this is a complex process that can only be done through physical modification, I have emailed three ICI's to get their professional opinion on importing this vehicle. I will report back!
