I will be printing up a day by day agenda with basic maps for attendees. If you are coming up late, let me know by pm and I can email it to you.

Will we be near any lakes or other fresh water sources?

I swear I posted a follow up message. I am out for this. I work Fri and Mon as well. I don't think the fire will be an issue. Have fun. North Rim is at 7,000 ft so be sure to bring your small Harbor Freight moving blankets for campfire warmth!

Oh and the important part of the follow up message I can't find. Gas is CHEAPER inside of the park that at Jacob Lake. By like $1 a gallon. FYI! The country store just before the entrance has a good selection of beer and can fill water tanks but they charge. Nice folks.

PS: Recommended side trip. Right before/after you hit the hill going up to Jacob Lake turn off at House Rock Road. Drive in a couple of miles and there is an observation area for the re-population of the California Condors. There is also a bathroom there I believe. Typically there are some folks monitoring the Condors and are happy to talk with you.

Hey all,
Wife and I (and new baby) are still in. We'll be staying with a friend in Flag on Thursday night and will meet the group in the morning. Sounds like some cornbread and dessert could work for the potluck??

Do we need any permits for this run?

No permits needed, unless you cross into the park.

It is all pretty much dry camping up there when camping at-large. There are some ponds and springs but they ask that you camp 1/4 mile from surface water.

We almost always get a permit. I have found they are the only reliable water source when camping near the rim. I've got to find a way to carry more than 20 gallons of water. The 4 wimmens in my group go through it like it's,

water.

Where would I get said permit if I wanted to have one?

I have 7 gal drinking water usually with me and I'm augmenting with 2x jerry cans for another 10 gal but I'm thinking I may try out my new 12v shower dealy dammit. Reserving 5 gal to play with the shower.

You get it at the entrance gate. There is potable water at the general store/laundry/shower area. We usually like to go there, get an ice cream and enjoy the views. The lodge is a really nice place to wander through as well. The permit also gives you access to some spectacular overlooks.

Sadly it looks like Point Imperial and Cape Royal are closed due to the fire.

I forgot to mention that DeMotte Park NF campground has water too.

Waterbricks are your new best friend....

Thanks for the info about the permit and water. Waterbricks are indeed your friend. I have 2x that live on a LCP Puma Mount full time. They provide my normal 7gal of drinking water. I'm bringing the GI cans mainly for experimentation. :)
