Hey everyone, just thought I'd say Hi, recently joined the club with a 72 FJ55. Has the usual rust and the typical rear window that doesn't work! I'm assuming it's the nylon gear piece that needs to be replaced. It's got a SBC 400 with 350 tranny. Front discs and PWR steering. I'm in the process of gutting it and rhinolining it, taking care of the rust and just getting it set up. I'll take pictures when I get home, as I'm at work right now.

My question: What backspacing are you guys running for a more stable ride? I've searched...some run spacers, some have custome backspacing... I've got a 4 inch lift. I'd like to run 35x 12.5x15 if possible but want the tires out a bit for clearance and track. Thanks in advance for the help. :grinpimp:

X2 ..... when I finish getting all the parts together:D

Yea, its outa mine too.:D I have heard of guys running spacers but I don't have any experience with them. Do a search. I know they are supposed to add some more stress to the bearings but people seem to use them without much trouble. There are some 2" spacers in the for sale section right now.

Thanks, I'll check em out. I've run spacers before, I didn't have a problem with them, so maybe that's the poor mans version for some added stability. Do you guys think 2 inch spacers are to wide?

I run 1.5 " Marlin Crawler spacers and like them a lot. 12.5 " wide 36's feel much more stable with the spacers, particularly on the trails and off camber...
Howdy! I'm running the original axles with 3.0 offset rims and no spacers on 35 x 13.5 BFG Krawlers. Stability on the road is great at freeway speeds. That is mostly due to steering geometry. Stability on the trail is good. Been over in the 30-35 degree area a lot. Haven't tipped it over, yet. John
