So i’ve had my junkyard find cruiser for almost 8 months now, and in the past couple months, ive noticed this non-rythmic knocking coming from (seemingly) the right side of the engine. Its slowly gotten more consisten, which concerns me. The video ive attached does a pretty solid job summing it up, and i suspect either a burnt valve or a bad adjustement. And yes, im aware of my
vacuum leak, im in the process of redoing the lines. Does anybody with more hours of 2f wrenching want to weigh in before i end up tearing off my head?

Could be a bearing chirping in the power steering pump or one of the pulleys. Listen with a mechs stethoscope or long screwdriver or pull the belts and see if it goes away. Doesn't sound like anything internal to the engine to me.

For a test, park the cruiser on a steep incline facing upwards and idle the engine. If that hell knock goes away — that's a clue

By anychance does it still happen when your AC is turned off? Sounds like an electric clutch trying to turn on and off. That or it sounds like a vacuum diaphram clapping, Id get a vacuum gauge and see how it reacts with the ticking. Could be a rouge solenoid. Just throwing out ideas!

@RustbucketBick - I seem to have developed that same "chirp". Sounds exactly like that. It only happens when cold then disappears once warmed up. Although, it will occasionally chirp a few times once warm but not frequent. I have a new OEM steering pump and rebuilt smog pump that I replaced myself. Perhaps I tightened the belts too tight? I'll try loosening em up a bit. Let me know if you've figured yours out. 85 FJ60 2F.
