I just removed the starter from my BJ70 (Ugghhh) after troubleshooting a clicking noise. Both solenoid contacts were replaced, the battery side contact which was totally eroded just happens to be used on Dodge Cummins trucks, so easily obtained.
Once installed the starter turned over the engine fine but one thing I noticed when I took it for a test drive was a new grinding noise that varied with acceleration.
Is there anything related to the installation of the the starter I may have overlooked? I don't recall any metal shims, the starter retracted fine on the bench. If there's nothing obvious I'll have to remove the 19mm bolt & nut attaching the starter and take another look, don't want to damage the splines on the starter or the flywheel teeth.
