No spark but sometimes a weak spark after we put in a junkyard 22re.....we used the complete intake and distributor from the original motor(spun bearing/rod knock) and put them on a 89k boneyard motor and now it wont start....def has fuel.....my timing light wont pick up any signal from the inducer, but the old school test (plug wire tip about 1/8 from a fender bolt) shows a tiny orange spark

Im thinking a ground issue?

maybe i put the distributor in off time?

a strange coincidental coil/igniter failure?

Aliens from the planet Zoltar sneak in my shop in the middle of the night just to f#!$ with me?

yep........its a ground issue any rust where the coil/igniter are located?

Good point. Coil and igniter are grounded though the coil bracket. Run an extra wire if necessary to the (-) battery post.

Also, is your ground strap from the block to the firewall connected? Paint is a horrible conductor.

Clean the strap loop as well as the bolt and threads so it'll conduct properly.

It still hasnt started......didnt/couldnt put much time in it so far

All 3 grounds attached...firewall to pull hook,to block under AC bracket, and alt bolt......gonna undo, clean and redo them all tomorrow.....also pull and clean plugs too..(they are new NGK's)

ill post up my results tomorrow...THANX for the help!

got it to run....
timing was about 40 degrees advanced, and the plugs were soaked in antifreeze...
purged the cylinders..
cleaned the plugs....
set the timing....
blows steam like crazy....
oil looks like a chocolate malt....
antifreeze disappears and smells like gasoline..

telling the customer that there "new" motor needs a HG.....priceless
