My LX came with just one key so I ordered a blank shortly after I got the truck. Yesterday the roads were really bumpy and I have my key chain set up so I can disconnect the other keys from the ignition key when offroad so they aren't banging around. Well at the end of my 7 hour drive I was exhausted and didn't put the key back on the ring right away and I lost it! The blank showed up in the mail about 2 hours later . . . . Had the whole family looking for it for the rest of day.

So, as far as I can tell, my only option is to have a new one made at the dealer?

I better crawl around under the truck, maybe there is a hidden key under there.

Just have the dealer cut one from the VIN. Should be good to go from there!

I believe they wil cut you what ever you pay for.

Don't know if this is a problem with the Lexus, but I recently tried to go through Toyota to get a fresh key cut for myself and was told that Toyota will no longer release the key codes from my year (97), so I am forced to removed the passenger door card and take the lock cylinder out to get a key code for them to cut.

What he said. ^^^^ Passenger side door cylinder has code for key shop to make new key. Much cheaper than dealer too.

I believe Cdan or Beno can cut you one if you can wait. Mine was cut by Toyota of Dallas, all it takes is one phone call as I know the counter part guys good.

Slightly off topic, been hesitant to remove the door card as I don't want to break clips/etc. Just be careful and remove? Part 2) My PS cylinder is dangling down there somewhere. Guessing there is a clip or doohickey that holds the cylinder in? Will it be obvious when I remove?

Got mine cut from the vin at the local toyota dealership for 5.50

It is a little tricky to get in....

Have window rolled all the way up.

hints, take a gasket scraper and cover the front with tape. Great little pry bar that won't mark.

There are three screws on the armrest, two under the cover and one near top.

The power window thing can break, so be gentle.

Yes, there is a screw that holds the lockset in the handle.

While you have this all apart, think about adding sound deadner. Makes a huge difference. Throw some nicer speakers in there too.

What about adding some nice vanity lights too.

 Thanks!

Found my key today :meh:

Apparently, in my exhaustion, I put my shirt down on top my my key then kept walking past it, for the next days, thinking I should pick it up. Oh well, 3 keys now.

Exactly what @msapers said in post #2.......

Take your car registration and I'd to a dealer.
They will cut you a key on the spot as long as they have a blank in stock.
I just had a new key cut for my 1994 and my 2001 off the vin. The 94 was free but the 2001 cost $50 for the chipped key and get the code programmed for my rig.
They don't just give out the key codes very often anymore. They said it's a liability issue.
Just my .02 cents.
