Nice to have some history on the rig.

If you ever decide to look for a correct corrugated top, note that only corrugated tops from a 1964 or the first half of 1965 will fit on your 40. The corrugated tops from '63 and older had a higher post behind the door...as indicated in the picture below.

This is interesting. My '66 fj40 with corrugated top (which I assumed was not original) and windshield vent is more likely a '65 or earlier cruiser, too. And, my top is possibly original.

Sorry for the hijack.

VIN is 33565.

It was not uncommon in the early years for a 40 to sit at a dealership, or even at the docks, for up to a year or more before being sold and titled.

33565 would have been manufactured around end of February 1965...and yes, a correct corrugated top model. Any pics?

EDIT: found your '66 thread.

Awesome! I am having a similar experience- my first few posts (which included early planning got me a few opinions on here too. Wildly divergent opinions, I might add. Painting it was the one that got the most .."discussion"... Lol. Mine is a 68 with original F that was rebuilt, and many connections left off. Simplicity is the best part, and driving a 3 speed is a lot more fun than I would have imagined- all this to say the best advice I got was drive it for a while before you decide how and in what order to proceed. I have enjoyed it to no end and my wish/want list shrunk to things I can do to enjoy it- seats for the kids, new battery and cables, alternator, gauges are next, level the rear end, maybe discs, though that is a problem I may not be ready to work on. I wouldn't be able to park and disassemble at this point. I would miss it!

Hey all, brand new here but we're on topic for exactly what I need help with. I have what I think is a '65 Fj40. My first car when I was 16, 21 years ago. I'm the second owner. First owner was a WWII Air Force doctor who then sered in Korea and Vietnam. He bought it somewhere in the South Pacific and brought it stateside. It is nearly 100% stock original. It has the corrugated top, but it also has corner windows. I'm baffled. SOR says such a thing doesn't exist. Nothing on this rig ha ever been modified so I can't see why the doctor would have had a shop add them afterwards. I've attached pix of the panels, the rig is apart because I'm finally doing a stock resto on it....

From what I have read on this site, back in the day adding the rear corner glass was a popular thing to do. And not stock. P.S your vin is les than 100 away from mine!

My VIN is 34480, which puts it as an Apr May 65. DOes anyone know what the little tag that says T-67 is for? I thought paint code, but cant find any cross reference.

Welcome!

I found something similar almost 2 years ago and this is the thread I made while putting it back together.

I try to document a lot and include part numbers and such so take a look.

Great find. The only thing I would have done different on this truck to this point......
I would not invest the time money blood and sweat on making the 4 wheel drums work.

Titled in 67. Early cruisers sat on lots for a while I guess. My early 65 (FJ40-33565) says T-66 and I have to register it as a 66.

Now that makes sense! All the way back it is titled/registered a 67. but some of the body parts (gaskets n such) would come in and not fit. Thanks for the tip. Now to only find original color... Any pointers?

Look under parts that may have not been removed for repainting. Maybe hood hinges, under the windshield frame, inside of the glove box. Somewhere on the internet is a list of Toyota paint colors through the years you can reference.
