Hello Everyone,

I am new to the cruiser forum after purchasing a '97 80 Series during the past week. This forum has been a complete asset for my purchase and helped steer me in the cruiser direction (I have owned G Wagens in the past, both LWB and SWB). My wife and I are located in the metro KC area and have been here for about 4 years (moved from San Francisco).

I am planning the slow process of preparing the cruiser for some expedition modifications (we vacation to Colorado, Utah, NM, etc a few times a year) and am curious for input on local mechanics and service centers. I travel extensively and find little time to tackle the tasks.

Welcome bmachine!

As far as local mechanics go, there are many TAC members who are excellent and I'm sure would be willing to help out on pretty much anything you can think of doing to your Cruiser. I don't really know of any service centers, mostly because I do most of my own work or I rope someone in to "helping" me (read: do it as I watch :D ).

Don't be a stranger, feel free to pop in at any TAC event, you're always welcome. And if you get around to it, I suggest joining the TLCA and TAC, some of the best money you can spend on your Cruiser. And, if you join up with TAC you get a nice discount at Molle Toyota on parts for your 80.

Welcome again, see you on the trails!

I would love to make it this weekend, however we had plans to travel out West to visit family. I just ordered the lift this afternoon with a few Slee accessories (shortbus, slide steps, transfer plate skid, CDL switch, cup holder for the wife)
Please keep me informed about all activities in the area...I joined TLCA and listed under number #18824.

First post congratulations to you packrat! What are your plans for it?

Hey all.

I just bought my 07 FJ Cruiser this week. Love it - now I need to spend some time with some "pros" to learn the ORV tricks!!

Where do you all go here in the KC are? (I live in Parkville)

I see Tuttle Creek is an option; are there others as well?

Thanks

Thanks for responding; is the Springfield (Gator) trip newbie-friendly? Do people tend to make it a day trip? Stay/camp? Etc.

(Sorry to ask so many questions!)

BTW, I do have a lot of newbie questions I'm dying to ask...but maybe I can sneak just two of them in?

- Can the lights in mirrors be upgraded? (what are they called, anyway? "Secondary lights"?)

- What do you use all of the available switch locations in the console for? (Subwoofer,ATRAC, etc.)

I'm sure some will suggest I search the threads, and I will be happy to if someone can simply share the "names" of the items?

Thanks, again, for your patience and help!

GATOR will be newbie friendly - there are trails from stock to infinity. Most attendees will make it a long weekend by arriving on Thursday and heading home on Sunday if their schedules permit. You'll see tents, campers, sleeping in their rigs, etc.
