If you have owned and driven one of the early trucks with the dual wiper motors--then you have probably had one fail on you while driving in a down poor. Finding original motors or restorable motors is getting harder and harder. So I decided to go look over on the "dark side" to see if I could find another option that still looked stocked and had the same wiring. Browsing over some JEEP websites--yes I know-- I found the perfect solution at a decent price--$45.00 for a stainless steal brand new motor. (https://www.kaiserwillys.com/product/1839/willys_wiperelectricconversionkits) Of course I think at one time Toyota itself was looking at using a jeep style motor as you may have noticed there are two different threaded holes on either side of where the wiper motor shaft goes through the windshield frame. The motor has a slightly different configuration which will require one to shift the wiper wiring harness slightly to accommodate the new motors---depend on how much your harness has been played with you may need to add a small extension to the wiring under the dash. Here are some photos comparing the two motors and showing them installed:

I do believe the original wiper motors are still available from Toyota. You just have to give them the part number since these were never used after 3/69 which is when the Toyota parts records stop. A lot of earlier parts are still available you just have to give the dealer the part numbers. I have never came across a wiper motor I couldn't rebuild if all the parts were there. The wiper not working in a heavy down pour has more to do with the age wiper of the wiper than the style. A complete rebuild and they work very well. This is taking it all the way apart and cleaning the dry grease out. Sanding the drive shaft smooth. Not saying option are nice. But I bought three TNK wipers off of Ebay for $35.00 a few years back. These were "as is no warranty" I was able to rebuild all three.

I am all about rebuilding the originals as much as possible but when let say the main shaft falls out of the motor while your driving down the road there is not much to rebuild. I have had wiper motors that would only swing half the path, ones that would work the first 3 minutes then stop, ones that wouldn't shut off......well you get the idea.

I use things until even Duck Tape wont help and then its time to find alternatives. Haven't had any luck finding new old stock that didn't run over $100.00 each. Hard to justify spending that type of money for an item that has been siting for that length of time with the lube turning to lard when you can buy a new Motor that was made a few months back.

Or you could put a newer windshield frame with a newer motor and linkage.

...or sidestep the fact that the P.O. did it for you!

I did tell you I ended up with the original frame for your 45, didn't I?

As far as the wiper motor discussion goes, I got a pair of the stainless ones from Jim Sickles about 10 years ago, once he figured out the 2 speed upgrade. I think if I were going to do anything other than a resto, I would move towards something with real-world utility like the 2 speed wiper motor assy from the 67 and newer setups.

Best

What wiper motors are you running in your blue daily driver 45?

Touche. ;p

I WILL upgrade them one day. For the time being, I did upgrade to a different wiper arm [with a much stronger spring] which I modified to accept the 75 and newer wiper blade, which has a REAL squeegie action.

I like this Idea, so how do they work, and how is the swing of the motors.

The motors work well--have a decent speed that can even handle harder downfalls. They have pretty much the same swing as the Toyota Motors just in the opposite direction. I think this is a good economic option for a part that no longer seems available and looks stock.

you can get these wiper motors from speedway motors .com
i picked up a wiper motor set a month ago.
Just ordered a set from SpeedwayMotors.com and will post up how this turns out. Passenger side has been intermittent and sweeping about 2-6" depending on how it feels for way too long. With a little luck this'll be just the ticket.
