Hello.
I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Jerry and I'm new as of this year to the world of Landcruisers. To give a little background info I use to own a very clean old 84 Jeep CJ-7 and loved to go off-roading with the family, but one day while I was at Tiffiny Springs park with my 6yr old son and our new dog I ran into a gentlemen that was hanging out and enjoying the nice weather we were having for Jan. I noticed his vehical and was instantly hooked. He was kind enough to give me a tour and I new as I finished I had to have one. He also explained this website and forum. That gentlemans handle on IH8MUD is Britklr and I also found out he happens to live less then a 1/4 mile from my place. So I immediatly got my Jeep ready for sale and started seaching IH8MUD. About 3 weeks later I found the one I wanted in California and away we went. I couldn't be happier with this rig, it does everthing I want plus has so much more room for a family of 4 with a dog plus all our gear. Another plus is all the "extras" that come from this website. As I type this now I wish I would have introduced myself earlier , sometimes I can have a tendancy to be shy when it's a subject I don't know much about. I am wondering if anyone locally has a suggestion for a good cruiser mechanic local to the KC area. I have some mechanical abilities but with being self-employed and raising a family my time is limited. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Well my power steering gear box is leaking pretty bad after we got back from Ouray. I also think my charcoal canister is clogged or bad. While I was in CO I had it clog or something. I filled up before hitting some trails one afternnon and as we were climbing altitude I started to have fuel leak out the frame rail and it died on the trail. When I went to open the gas cap fuel shot out about 3' it was so pressurized. I discovered with some help making a call to RedLine Landcruisers that my float was bent in the bowl. So While we were out there I took the upper part of the carb apart and bent the float back as strait as I could get it. Since the day I bought it, it has always "popped" "backfired" when shifting gears until it get's warmed up. Now that it's getting cooler out it's starting to develope a hesitation while shifting through 1st-3rd until it warm up.

And by the way, thanks for the welcome

Beautiful rig. Welcome to the "other" side.

There is a process for checking your evap canister. I don't remember the exact procedure, but it's basically just shooting low pressure air through it to make sure it is open. You should be able to find it on MUD, or I can look it up (although probably not til next week).

As for the popping, most likely culprit is vacuum leak.

Good looking 60. Looks a lot like mine. I had the same problem with the fuel pressurizing and I swapped the lines on the charcoal canister and it took care of it. Your carb might need rebuilt if you dont have vac leaks. you live right down the road from where I lived. If you need parts the dealer at tiff springs is pretty good to cruiser guys.

Mwalls54. Thanks for the response, I did that already with the vacuum lines switching them backwards on the canister and it has made a difference it makes it drivable. I wonder how long you can get away with driving like that is it okay, does it hurt anything long-term?
I really didn't even consider using the Toyota dealership up At Tiffany Springs I figured because of the age of this thing nobody there would really know too much about it but I will give them a try thank you.
Has anybody ever used Sean up at Toy Tech in Liberty?

I did mine in 09 when I lived there and It is still like that. The parts guys, Rusty and Howard were the guys to deal with unless they are nnot there any more. You willk have to ask Paul.

Thanks for the additional info. I'll have to give them a try.

Thanks for the welcome. Any suggestions on a local Kansas City mechanic that's good with FJ 60 cruisers?
