I just recently moved back to SoCal (from the DC area), am new to mud, new to 80's, and new to this forum. I have been poking around on mud for a few months, and just bought my 80 for DD about 2 months ago. I am a 3/4  at best, and have never done any real wheeling, but I have to admit that the 80 has tempted me to start modding and give it a try.
I am married with 2 boys (3 yrs. and 1 yr.), and am hoping to get involved with you guys a little bit (if you don't mind having a naif like me tag along). I am out of commission for a couple of months studying for a big test that I have to take for work, but once that is over I am planning on getting serious about building out both of my vehicles and learning to put them through their paces.
Thanks, Ben.

welcome, as far as the kids go we have 3 and they like to camp and wheel....

btw when you get a chance put something in the check in thread...

Welcome! I was at best a 1/2  wrench when I joined this forum. I am now (in my opinion) a   . All with the help of this forum and great guys like Ray and Mo and many others. I actually do m own maint. now and before I had never even changed my own oil. This is a great family oriented group in which you will always be encouraged to bring your lady and kids along. I just became a father 13 days ago and just can't wait to get mt son out on the trail. There are generally 2-3 runs a month put together with no official organization...which is great. Someone will throw out a date and location and people will start raising their hands to attend if they can. There is a good sized group in Big Bear as we type. Look forward to meeting you at a run/dinner. Check the sticky at the top of the page for Stickers avail. if you would like a great SoCal 80's decal.

Welcome, with an official Mud and SoCal 80s salute. :flipoff2:

Good to have you aboard. We welcome all comers and are a family oriented group of wheelers an Cruiser lovers. Heck we even have a member with a GASP! TJ.

There are many knowledgeable members in our group and an absolutely amazing wealth of knowledge on the 80 series tech area. You have found arguably the best Cruiser forum on the net. If you haven't done so you should throw out an intro on the Tech area and a picture or two of the new rig. Even if it is bone stock we all still love to see the new members rides. Congratulations on the new ride and good to have you. I am sure you will love wheeling your Cruiser as it is an amazing experience and your options of adventures is almost endless. Feel free to post up any questions as you go along. This is not the type of place where you will be ripped apart or hassled for a lack of knowledge. Heck we even took in Smitty!:flipoff2: :flipoff2:

Welcome

Welcome Ben! :flipoff2:

We all started as naif's at one point...except Mo I think. He was born to offroad I think!

Thanks for the welcome. I am still in the process of baselining fluids and belts, etc. ... But the stoopid questions are sure to follow in the not too distant furture.

Welcome Ben, look forward to meeting you soon. Consider yourself lucky for finding this group now rather than after you spend a bunch of $$$ on what you think are good modifications only to find out later things like "nerf" bars aren't very practical (not that I ever did that). I could have saved myself lots of $$$ by asking more questions and doing more research in the early days of crusier ownership.

As far as the kids go both of mine have been wheeling with me since they were 6 mos old (7 and 4 now). The cruiser has provided us with some great family time, camping, wheeling and exploring. Your kids are gonna love it!

cheers,
David...

Welcome Ben, there are even quite a few of us right here in Diego, so check in here and meet up with us whenever you can. The one thing I regret is waiting till' I got my tires to start wheeling, these rigs can go most places even in completely stock form.
