Picked this Land Cruiser up earlier this week. Looked really clean when I went to check it out. Overall been very happy with it so far. Think I scored a pretty good deal.

It was in Massachusetts, so its seen some harsh winters but I got underneath it and it appeared to just have some surface rust on the frame and some hardware/brackets etc. Nothing too serious.

One thing I did overlook was the hitch. I didn't bother popping the plate on the back bumper off to look at it. Checked it out today and there is a fair amount of corrosion on it. Much more than any other place I'd inspected. Not awful but I'd say I thought it was something that needed to be addressed asap.

I already wire brushed what I could. I figured I'd take the rear bumper cover off while I'm at it, wire brush the rest of it then repaint it. Any tricks to taking the rear bumper off or is it pretty straight forward? I didn't see any walk throughs about doing it so I'm guessing its a simple process.

Now that I have a 200 series maybe I'll try to be more than a lurker.

I'd just take the spare tire off and see how much you can get to from there, you may be surprised and save yourself a lot of trouble with the bumper facia R&R.

Nice truck...and driveway!

Thanks.

The driveway looks nice but the guy who built it 10 years ago used 3/8" slate. It's fine for walking on but doesn't hold up well to vehicles being driven on it. However they left a rather large supply of extra slate tiles. As soon as I run out it's getting concreted.

Different topic, but can anyone recommend a good 2nd row cover/protector? Have to put a couple child seats back there and I wanted to try to keep them clean and prevent the child seats from making permenant indentations from pressing into the seats. So they don't need to be pretty, just functional.

With your regions freeze thaw cycles I'm surprised it's lasted ten years. Consider yourself lucky.

Welcome to the club.
My cruiser spent its first three years in Mass before I saved it. I pulled the rear facia and hit the frame with my pneumatic wire wheel. No more worries after that. It's worth the time spent.

yeah that's what does it. we bought the place in the summer and the previous owner had just fixed all the tiles. Once we went through a couple freezes tiles started coming loose and if they aren't firmly secured to the ground they get destroyed by any car running over them. Looks pretty but I wouldn't recommend it.

Is taking the rear facia off a pretty simple process? any fasteners hiding out of sight, or difficult to get to?

a buddy of mine is strongly recommending fluid film and I plan to use it, but I feel like getting as much off as possible and re painting may be smart to do first. He's suggesting I try to fluid film first by itself.

I just put the Weathertech rear seat cover in mine. It's an excellent fit, very well made, and will protect the seat from anything my dogs can do back there. I ordered it along with the Weathertech floor liners and cargo area cover, so my truck is now well protected. I also found that Weathertech is now making a flap that rolls out over the tailgate to protect it as a snap on option for the cargo cover. I got that with mine and it works great to protect the tailgate carpet.

It's pretty easy to

It's simple just takes a little time to pop off GSIC - Global Service Information Center
You can figure out which steps you don't need to do on this but here's the gist

your buddy has a good suggestion but I'd take your approach first and get after the rust spots, repaint and then once that's cured see what you think.

Would you mind getting some pics of this. Real pics always seem mo better than the site and when I last looked, everything they showed was not a LC, had a full lift gate, no tail gate. course could be pebkac.

Sure, I'll take some in the morning and post them. Rear seat cover and cargo cover (without the 3rd row installed).

that looks like a good option. Nice and simple. Is the middle seat belt and the LATCH anchors usable with the weathertech seat cover?

Here are pics of the Weathertech back seat cover just after it was installed, so it's still wrinkled from being packed. I also have a pic of the rear of the back seats showing the cover does not come over the top, so there is full access to the middle belt. There is a continuous section of velcro fasteners along the crease between the seat bottom and seat back on the front of the seat, allowing full access to all seat belts.

There are 2 pics of the Weathertech cargo cover, one with the extra flap extended and one with it rolled up on the stowed position. It also will just snap off completely with 4 snaps. I like that flap feature a lot, since the tailgate on my cruisers lives a hard life with stuff being loaded/unloaded all the time.

That is brilliant. Great for dogs.

Many thanks. How's the roll thing attach? Is it cobbled or actually pretty on there? Pretty stout? Also, what the p/n or linky on the roll/ tail gate thing?

I use these under the car seats and is strong enough for no indentions into the seats when latched. Also easy to remove and keep leather clean.
