The 78 and later models were known to be rust buckets because of a change in the metal quality and thickness. You said that it was good from the middle forward. I would recommend that you get under and check the rockers under the door. I would be somewhat surprised if the cancer was not up to the firewall.

I agree with rob, looks like a nice project.

What color are you going with?

I have a 2f that ran when I pulled it for sale. Under 100k miles per the po.

The rust in the back is beacuse the PO kept a bag of salt there so he could salt his driveway in the winter. It rusted through the roll bar. I've been under it and there is a little rust on the rockers but not much. I think the FJ will run but the fuel tank, lines and sending unit are all in the back of the cruiser. That makes me think there "might" be a fuel problem and thats why it was parked. I'd like to make it as original as can be, save maybe a small lift and bigger tires.

This came out of Richmond Mo. It will be a fun project. I'm not doing anything to it until I get the title.

I don't think the metal changed until '79. A '78 is considered the "best" year LC because 2F, Disc fronts, fine spline pinions and heavier sheet metal.

I bow to the knowledge of Ed......
