Hey everyone, I recently imported this beauty to the good ol U.S of A and I have found that the speedometer, odometer and tachometer don't work, as well as flickering lights on the dash. I did crawl under the transfer case and found some broken wires. Any assistance in identifying what is supposed to be plugged into what is greatly appreciated

Couple of suggestions:
1) State your actual location. The guy 3 blocks from you may be a LC expert.
2) Buy or download a repair manual.
3) These trucks are pretty darn simple. Try to figure things out, one problem at a time. Again having a repair manual is very helpful.

BTW, nice truck and welcome to the forum.

Im in Florida, Ive got a couple of them downloaded, and it seems like I need a new cable assembly for the speedometer since this one looks snapped.

But does anyone know what those wires that snapped might run to? It seems like this thing used to have a second fuel tank and someone took it out. It also looks like I might have a 79 bed on a 75 because most of the bolts dont fit the frame mounting point.

North or South Florida?

Hello,

Welcome to the madness.

If I remember correctly, the 79 Series bed is around 2 in. or 50 mm shorter than the 75 Series.

The snapped wire can be either from the transfer case (part of the 4WD light circuit) or the secondary fuel tank. Does your truck have a dash pod over the radio with a fuel gauge?

It is possible that the speedometer cable is loose or on its way out. It may need replacement.

Juan,
This truck bed looks slightly too long, ill have to grab some pictures to show yall.
It does indeed have the pod over the radio, which is one of the reasons I bought this truck haha. But the tank itself is missing!

And as far as the cable, it looks like the inner part of the cable is broken. Do yall know of any place to source parts?

Hello,

Chances are the secondary tank removal was done with little, if any, care. And a lot of severed wires.

I think @coldtaco used a 79 Series bed on his 75 Series truck and posted its dimensions. You should check his thread for reference.

There are many part suppliers, from 'Mud's vendors to your local Toyota dealer. If you use your local dealer, make sure you fill in the import vehicle form (HS-7 or HS something) in order to clear the procurement process with them. 'Mud vendors can help you as well.

Thanks Juan,
I definitely want to find the secondary tank and put it back in.
As far as the truck bed, Im probably going to talk to a local Fab shop and make some adapters so I dont have to cut the bed down.

I'd reach out to @cruisermatt, his shop is in the Orlando area and he has heaps of Land Cruiser experience in general and has worked on a number of 70 series.

Thanks! Ill definitely reach out to him.
He's very good at parts procurement too. His website is:

And here on mud

79 bed is about 4" longer than the 75 bed. the mounts for both work, you just have to shorten the front end of the 79 bed about 4" to fit behind the cab. I can't tell from the picture how far off the bed is.
New speedo cable
The other two wires are for the 4LO light or fwd light, can't remember exactly.
If it had dual fuel tanks then the wiring and hoses should be mounted to the inside of the right frame. The front/rear tank switch solenoid would be on top'ish of the frame just forward of the front tank.

Perfect, im

I love having the longer bed. How much of a pain is it to shorten vs just making and welding in some mounting brackets?

Thank you for helping me identify the broken cables, it was going to be a pain to figure out where they went. That metal piece with the broken wiring is for the 4wd light?

I saw the solenoid for the front/rear tank. It looks like they just removed the hoses and left it in.

The back tires don't line up with the wheel well. That is a big issue both cosmetically and function wise. Did the seller disclose anything about the swapped out bed or the stuff that didn't work?

They didnt... of course I got the truck from a company in Dubai so there's that...
