Just picked up a 93 HZJ73 in Okinawa, Japan. Drives like a tractor, smells and feels like an old Cessna... I love it. Goal is to import it back to the US in a few years.

I'm new here, so if this sounds like a stupid question, feel free to rag on me as long as you provide something constructive for me to work with. Thanks--

I have looked around youtube, clicked through some forums; this seems to be the place where everyone learns, though the info is all spread out. I was hoping to find a channel or page (one stop shop) where someone goes through the 70 series from top to bottom, so I can learn how to maintain this car and how it works without making mistakes that someone else has already had to learn the hard way... Any resources like this out there?

I am already up against an electric window that won't go up and a few dash lights that need replaced... I drove an 06 silverado (non-diesel) for 15 years, everything I needed for maintenance I found on youtube, but I haven't come across such luck just yet for this car, and the manual is in Japanese so that's not going to work.

I see a lot of posts here about components (and problems) I've never even heard of. Just trying to get ahead of the problems and learn. Thanks

welcome! So this IS the best place on the internet to find anything and everything you will
Need to fix it.

Google search using ih8mud really helps out.

However one of the best ways to get help and keep track of it all, is starting a thread like this, lots of pictures and questions and people will gladly help out here. There is a ton of info here.

Here’s a good link on the lights and upgrades in dash.

Welcome to the madness...
Workshop manuals are your next stop ... 😆

For any manuals: Check the manuals section:
Some online parts stores provide parts diagrams, which also help a lot to understand how your vehicle is constructed.
Partsouq.com amayama.com
(Start with your VIN)

Also for Land Cruiser quite some youtube tutorials are available; it just depends on the topic.
Here is my list:

You want to get ahead of problems: Baseline your car:
- Change all fluids (engine, gearbox, t-csde, diffs, brakes, clutch, coolant, grease job)
- Open, Check & adjust the brakes.
- Check knuckels : Wheel play? Bearings Ok? (Learn what 'The knuckle job' is and check whether your rig is due for it)
- Check rear wheels (bearings) for play
- Check steering linkage: Play in tierod ends and joints?
- Check bushes on suspension, shocks, stabilizers bar
- Check battery
- Check engine for smooth running, clutch, gears and t-case performance.
- Check 4x4 engaging (H4 button? Vacuum actuated? The solenoid sometimes give issues)
- Check drivetrain: Diff pinion Oil leaks? Vibrations / grinding?
- Check 4x4 Hi and Low. Check (electric?) Hubs. (Electric hubs are prone to fail)
- Pull the interior panels in the back, seats and carpet and check for rust.
- Pull dash front panel and check for dodgy DIY electrics by previous owner (usually there is some). Check for hacks into the factory harness.

Go from your findings...

AND Drive it and enjoy it!
Good Luck Ralf
