Kind of sounds like a twin engine turbo prop. I had a set of TSLs on my trooper, they were a lot smoother tahn I expected, but the noise was amazing.

Thats EXACTLY what it sounds like.

My buddy that I took a ride said "wow" that sounds like no other tire (at least what we`ve ever heard !) And yes, they actually ride smoother than I expected , It is certainly a tire you can live with.

Imiagine that sound in an FJ40 with the top off, my son and I decided that it was like being on WWII bombing run over Germany in a big four engine plane.

Great comparison.. They`re still loud inside a heavily sound-deadend 100 , I can only imagine on a open top !

I am heading out today to get a feel for em , so some pics will be coming soon :)

Peace

Didja say 44 PSI??? I would lower that a bit. I run my 13x36 regular TSL's at about 25 psi on the street. That will smooth them out a lot and you wont wear out the centers as fast.

I run mine around 18PSI/street 7PSI /Trail but I'm still dialing things in on the 40.

I am getting so many different suggestions for tire pressure , Im not sure what to run

Running 18-25 PSI @ highway speeds (65-75) on a built 100 just seems way too low for that kind of weight... I must admit I`m already highly paranoid about them being bias-ply, but its the PSI to load capacity that worries me. In this case, I have a feeling that tire wear will have to take a back seat to safety.

Wouldn`t a highway driven 40 (or even an 80) require less PSI in general than a similarly built 100 ?

Where would I find a chart on how much air pressure I should be running with a, lets say, 7000 LB vehicle with the weight evenly distributed 50-50 ?

Oh, I dropped the pressure to 30 (from 44) to see what effect it had. They were noticeably louder and more "squirmy"... It actually felt more like the E-brake lever was up a few clicks too

It will take some time to dial these tires in just right, but it will be worth it !

.

...Words cannot describe the tire sound inside my 100 now..

I dont see how anyone could get used to the noise, its more like accepting it.

They seem fairly "settled in" @ around 65mph running 44psi , the vibration is fairly minimal and the noise is, well..

DID I MENTION THE NOISE ? ! :D

That's what the volume control is for on the radio!

I would think you would aportion the psi per the actual vehicle weight as it relates to the load carrying capacity at a given psi from the tire manufacturer (should be stated on the sidewall). And an ink tread test would be benefitial too.

Just to make things more confusing, a lot of 40's guys with bead locks run these on the trail at 0 PSI. Zuke guys run them at 0PSI w/o bead locks:eek:

As opposed to spressomons analytical method I am using an empirical method, that is "cut and try". As you say it takes a little time to get it right.

BTW doing 65 on the highway is just a memory for my 40. Maybe when I put the 33" BFG AT's back on I can think about those kind of speeds again.

I know how you feel rusty , My LC keeps getting slower...and slower... and...

I do however, know why they are called Swampers now...

They SWAMP your POWER
They SWAMP your GAS MILEAGE
They SWAMP your STOPPING DISTANCE
They SWAMP your CORNERING
They SWAMP your QUIET RIDE

Yeah, yeah, I know what the "other series" drivers are saying ...

FRICKIN 100 WUSSES !! :princess: !!

:D

Sin, what kind of gas mileage are you getting now?

8 and 10... :hillbilly: I'd imagine.

I hears ya on slow. All that armor and rubber adds up...

I guess I need to fix my sig line, I got a pair of Pink Panties last week.;)

Ya Wuss...
I am getting so wussified so fast I may be setting new records.:flipoff2:

Ooooo heated seats, my butt likes that on cold mornings. :grinpimp:

I do miss picking bugs out of my teeth though, can't wait for bikini top weather. I't supposed to get almost to 60 next week.

You guys are a crack-up !

Its great to see the old-school Cruiser owners slowly moving towards the 100 series models...(There sure seems to be a LOT lately !) I suspect even some hard-core holdouts will eventually add a 100 to their stables. (?)

Dont be scared, The 100 just makes you feel a bit more "relaxed"... Its not a bad thing, in fact we all need that as we get OLD :)

Sin, what kind of gas mileage are you getting now?

You dont even want to know 1Loud, Its bad... REAL bad ! I cant even get the trans to up-shift to Overdrive on a mild grade anymore. So far, I`ve used almost a half of a tank to go only 90 miles !!!!!

Talk about a trade-off when going aggressive..Sheesh !

I think the only thing that will save me now are some new gear ratios ;)

Peace !

With a username like sincity I'm assuming you are in LV.

Where do you go that requires a rig this well built?

Heh Heh... Come down here and see !

There`s pretty much anything from mild to wild, the terrain is so wonderfully varied within just a 100 mile or so distance, And it looks like we will be getting a huge new designated trail system up the road a bit.

Right now I am just having fun with my Cruiser ( running some harder trails with pals, testing the limits of my rig ) and I thought it would be a blast to throw some swampers on and test NEW limits ;)

I dont see replacing them (with the same tire) once they are worn out, I will move towards an "expedition-style" tire eventually cause thats what He will retire as, a long distance expedition rig. Actually, it was getting close until I threw that insane rubber on it ... My Bad :)

Oh.. Did you say 0PSI ??!! DAMN! I thought that was just Urban legend , I`ve read that the LTB will not spin the bead even on a non bead-locked rim , I didnt believe it but if so thats just amazing.

I must admit that I cant wait `till I have to lower the pressure REAL low... That where they shine. ( at least I hope !)

I grew up in Vegas, just wondering which trails you go on, and how they have changed since I was a kid.

Logandale system, spring valley, Nellis dunes, Lake mead... Everything from exploring rarely used BLM roads to the desert wildlife range, I do get around ;)
Since you know the area, Its near Alamo, that the BLM has allotted a fairly large portion of land for trail use ( thats what I`m looking forward to!)
