Summary

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2008-2016 Toyota Land Cruiser, 2006 Lexus LX470, and 2008-2013 Lexus LX570 vehicles. These vehicles may be equipped with an incorrect driver or front passenger air bag. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

This appears to affect a small number of 2008-2013 LX570 and 2008-2016 Land Cruiser vehicles. See the complete recall notice here: Recalls

This is the e-mail I received:

What is a recall?
When a manufacturer or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) determines that a vehicle creates an unreasonable risk to safety or fails to meet minimum safety standards, the manufacturer is required to fix that vehicle at no cost to the owner. That can be done by repairing it, replacing it, offering a refund (for equipment) or, in rare cases, repurchasing the car.

What should I do if my vehicle is included in this recall?
If your vehicle is included in this recall, it is very important that you get it fixed as soon as possible given the potential danger to you and your passengers if it is not addressed. You should receive a separate letter in the mail from the vehicle manufacturer, notifying you of the recall and explaining when the remedy will be available, whom to contact to repair your vehicle, and to remind you that the repair will be done at no charge to you. If you believe your vehicle is included in the recall, but you do not receive a letter in the mail from the vehicle manufacturer, please call NHTSA's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236, or contact your vehicle manufacturer or dealership.

Thank you for your attention to this important safety matter and for your commitment to helping save lives on America's roadways."

Thanks man

Thanks for sharing! FWIW, my 2011 was not included in the recall.

My 2009 LC not included in this or any recall.

Ditto - my '15 shows unaffected too.
However it's early days with the LC being included.
They may not know all the VINs effected yet or the VIN check system might not be updated.

Cough-Equifax-Cough

I would check again after a few weeks as well.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks once again, @gaijin! My 2016 is in the clear.

Looks like there are only 21 affected vehicles.

Yea? How is that it's only 21 over that year range... That seemed strange to me.
Being a mass produced vehicle you'd think the batch would be larger than that.
That's why I'm thinking more will be identified in time.

Looks like there are only 21 affected vehicles.

21?? Wow. That's a tiny group! Will be curious if anyone here needs it... Checked mine.

2015 ....build date 11/14....no recalls. Whew & thx!

I agree it is strange, but that is what the recall states.

I wonder if that means 21 air bag product inventory items could have been installed across 200, 2000, etc. vehicles and any one of those vehicles with 1 of those 21 airbag units needs replaced?

Didn't affect our '13, but the :princess: is250 got hit with the last airbag recall and had to get swapped.

My 08 is good. My Dodge Cummins has an airbag recall and they can't seem to get the parts to do the repair. I've been on a list for months!

'14 LC here, was not impacted by recall.
